Some good news...and I need a lil bit of help!!

Hello all!

I haven't been on here for a while (apart from lurking shamelessly in the shadows!!) been extremely busy at work and attempting to empty yet more cardboard boxes into our new home. :T

Anyhoo...we got some good news late last week. DWP accepted my partner's application for DLA and we have bee awarded high rate mobility and medium rate care which amounts to an extra £350 a month :T which will be going into a savings account for in the event my fella can't physically go to work as he gets no sick pay from his employer

I've applied for the DLA404 so we can cash in his road tax and get the disabled entitlement. However, I've just created a new list of monthly outgoings and was wondering if I'm missing something glaringly obvious where I can save us more money?!

I will post it as a reply to this message and if you lovely people could have an i-spy over it, much appreciated!

Tang

    Great news tangled!
I don't know much about the subject so I can't suggest anything else but that's REALLY good news!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

    Food - £160
    Fuel - £160
Xmas - start putting £50 a month to one side from August to December
Vehicle upkeep - Nil - partner is a mechanic and mot tester. My car isn't testable or unreliable as it's all covered still under warranty.

Our gas and electric are changing suppliers at the beginning of April hence why that isn't on there and I will be planning on putting the gas on quarterly and keeping the electric on card as we use alot less electric than gas due to my fella's disability.

I am waiting for compensation from a road traffic accident which should be arriving at the end of April. Solicitor is anticipating no less than £5k as I have now got unfixable damage to the muscles in my neck.

Was planning on using the compensation to pay off the credit cards and keep £1k to myself.:o

The PC is paid for in June - so I will save £40 a month there. And hopefully I will be getting rid of the Rentsmart when my solicitor closes up the family business.

As your OH is on medium rate care you should be able to apply for carers allowance.

    What is rentsmart?

You really need to cut your mobile amount, roughly a tenner a month each. You need to shop around for cheaper car insurance.

    What are your incomings?
  • I was told I can't apply for carer's as I work 35-40 hours a week and earn £15k a year :S

Are we entitled to any help elsewhere? Like council tax or anything? (hope I don't sound like a scrounger)

Rentsmart is a rental agreement on the company laptop.

Can't cut the mobile amounts as I work shifts and use my mobile for work. Can't drop OH's tariff as we're in a 18 month contract.

Car insurance is for 2 cars which are both up for renewal in June so April is the last payment.

Join quidco and get cashback when you renew. Can you get anything back for using your mobile for work? Shame about the CA, you need to be caring for 35 hours a week.

Have you had a look at entitledto.com double check you are getting all you are entitled to :)

A little question - why do you have to pay for company laptop? I have a laptop, mobile and printer and don't pay for anything!

Have you taken a good look at your life & critical illness? to see if its worth having? especially as you rent & dont have a mortgage to cover.
I checked the one I took out but it covered absolutely nil. Now cancelled.
