Help please! Internet Connected with Limited Access?

Hi All,
At the weekend I uninstalled Norton on my laptop as it had expired and downloaded AVG.
Since then I have not been able to access the internet.
It DOES connect but says "connected with limited access" and I cannot view any pages or access email.
I try to get WLAN to connect but this fails every time it tries to find the IP address?
I am well within range of the Wireless router as it is right next to it and says 100% signal so that is not the problem.
I am now using Windows Vista firewall as it said I was not secure once Norton was removed.
I am a complete idiot when it comes to computers and I should imagine it is something really simple like ticking/unticking a box but I really have no idea what to do.
Please could someone help me in plain terminology please as I am having to use the PC to access the internet at present.
Many thanks.
CF

have you checked the firewall is allowing access? I think it is in control panel just like it is on XP. There is an advance tab for changing what can be allowed etc.0

Norton is notorious for leaving parts of itself on pcs after 'uninstall'

I have no idea what I am looking for within the firewall access to allow!
Sorry, said I was thick!
I temporarily turned the firewall off and it is still limited access so it can't be that.

Okay how do I get that uninstaller on my laptop please as I can't access the net?! lol
Do I need to save it on my PC and then soemhow transfer it to my laptop - i.e. via USB stick?
Sorry for all the questions but I really have no idea and it is annoying me that I cannot access the net or emails.
Thanks for any help offered.

Hi is this for Windows XP?
if so try checking these things
go to Start > Settings > Control Panel then click Security Centre
under manage security settings for:
click Windows Firewall and in the window that appears there are 3 tabs: - General Exceptions and Advanced
in General tab check the green tick is On (recommended)
and uncheck Dont Allow exceptions
in Exceptions tab check that all the boxes that start avg are ticked
in Advanced tab check the 3 boxes are ticked
1394 Connection
Local Area Connection 2 and Wireless Connection
Try that and let us know if it works?0 -

In the end I did a system restore to before I installed AVG and voila all works again!
I noticed another thread where the poster had the exact same problem so I am wondering if Vista & AVG aren't compatible?
Any other free antivirus software anyone can recommend please?
Thanks.

Ive seen this happen if the wep passkey is incorrect.
AVG free is not a trial unless you downloaded the wrong software from AVG

Yes, it did ask for a WEP password today, but I have no idea what it is?
Should I know it?
