Game - trying to return faulty game

Yesterday I purchased a preowned PS2 game from Game.
Got it home and soon found out it wasn't working properly.
Went back to the same store this morning and asked for a replacment or a refund. They said they will have to replace it for a preowned on like before which is fair enough. We soon figured that there weren't any more and he walked off to make a phone call. The other game store has a preowned copy and can I go there to exchange my game? Well no not really. It is a 15 min walk away from here and then i would have to walk all the way back to get the bus for something that isn't my fault. So I asked for a refund and they refused saying that another game was avalible but I didn't want it and I had already broken the seal on the game meaning the refund policy isn'y valid. I point on that it is faulty and that i'm happy for a new one, a preowned or a refund but not to spend an extra half an hour of my time because they don't check games before they resell them. He stands his ground and says i'm welcome to check back in the future to see if they have one there.
And for the record I have the receipt and they are not willing to go get the game themselves.
Am I in the wrong or should I stand my ground?

I think for the sake of 15 minute walk if you want the game then go get it. Its not that bad really.0

It is when it actually takes 30 min because i have to come back again to get the bus. Not to mention that that isn't the point!Debts: Gym £[strike]465.75[/strike] Student account [strike]£1039.88[/strike] Overdraft [strike]£129.00[/strike] Credit Card [strike]£2772.22[/strike] Loan [strike]£6222.01 [/strike]

Is this what you requested them to do? Go get the game themselves? I cannot imagine they would leave their store and go to pick up this game for you. I cannot see many retailers doing this due to security and insurance policies.
The best thing you can do is call up head office and ask them if they can arrange a transfer via their internal system of the game for collection at your local store. Explain that you feel the service did not meet your expectations and that the SA was not as helpful as he could of been.
I appreciate your point is why should you go out of your way, but my point is because you are missing out. If you are going to stand your ground you need to ensure your demands are reasonable and possible for them to put in place.0 -
As far as I'm aware, you are entitled to a refund if the product is faulty, regardless of whether it is preowned or not. To Quote Trading Standards:
Can I take secondhand goods back if they are faulty?
Yes, when you buy secondhand goods you have the same rights as when you buy new, however you must remember that you cannot expect the same quality or durability from secondhand goods, and this must be taken into account.0 -
Thanks guys. Like I said before I don't care if i get a new replacement, a second hand one or a refund but i think its blooming cheeky they they expect me to take half an hour out to replace their faulty game! They are refusing to do anything else and say it's my fault that I won't go to the other store.Debts: Gym £[strike]465.75[/strike] Student account [strike]£1039.88[/strike] Overdraft [strike]£129.00[/strike] Credit Card [strike]£2772.22[/strike] Loan [strike]£6222.01 [/strike]

Thanks - I played the game for about 2 hours so I think a replacement is fair enough!Debts: Gym £[strike]465.75[/strike] Student account [strike]£1039.88[/strike] Overdraft [strike]£129.00[/strike] Credit Card [strike]£2772.22[/strike] Loan [strike]£6222.01 [/strike]

report them to trading standards, you are entitled to a refund if you don't want an exchange.0

Are the two stores in the same town then?
In Brum there's two and I'd find it worth going to the other store to exchange x0
