I have thought about a self select ISA (I might still do that), but reading the above post the charges kind of puts me off.

Which post exactly put you off mate?

It's a bit of a faff to sort this account up I see (Unless I lucked out)!! After various calls and transfers it transpires that you have to set up the Sharebuilder account online (fair enough).

You also have to set up a standard share dealing account or the SB account cannot run. You don't have to utilise this account and both accounts will share the same acct no. etc.

I tried to set-up the share dealing account online but it is a requirement to deposit a minimum of £100 into the acct to open it! If you call through to 08457 22 55 25 and set it up there, stating that you are opening it for the Sharebuilder acct, this deposit is invalidated.

The other faff is that you must be registered to the Halifax Online service. This means that you must register for the online service 1st (can take up to 5 working days), then apply for the Share Dealing acct (can take up to 5 working days) and finally apply for the SB acct - I've not got that far yet so I can't state how long it is from opening until you can use it (i.e. with acct transfers and validations etc).

Hopefully it will be good fun and worth it in the end!

Still not got the account set up!! I sent back the direct debit mandate and awaited a response through the mail. 2 1/2 weeks later when nothing arrived I called up Halifax to see if they'd received the documentation - They hadn't or it had been lost internally. The lad on the phone said "I can set up the account on a debit card instead as it will save you time". I went with this and tried to link the account to my Halifax profile with no joy.

I assumed this was a generic error and they were working on the online systems or something. After 2 days with no success, I called them back. It was then discovered that it was a problem with my profile and would take 48 hours + to fix!!

Hopefully not everyone suffers these problems and this issue is an isolated one, but I thought I should share the experince!

    I'll keep you all posted.........

.....So I call up Halifax yesterday after discovering that the Sharebuilder account is on my online login, but I can't access it! Turns out that the guys in the tech office created my profile but didn't link it to anything. Should be sorted by next Friday at the latest!!

The saga continues.............(I will need therapy soon)

im interested in the account, but cant find any information regarding the commission starting 07/08 - is this the £1.50 charge, or is the commission on top of this?

    Kind regards

    Hello and welcome.

The Sharebuilder scheme is comission free until 30th June 08. I believe that after that, you pay £1.50 per trade and a comission on top of that.
