Helpful lot the council aren't they :rotfl:
I would definatly get onto them as they do have things they need to adhere to and if they think they'll get away without they will!0 -

Thats not too bad then, i thought you were going to have nothing to cook in at all:eek:The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

See if anyone on Freecycle has a foldaway camping table or garden table you can use while the work is being carried out?
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Ironing board with the cover off might also be useful, or a wallpaper pasting table (borrow, don't buy !).
You might find it useful to keep a written record of every single thing they do and if you have a digi camera take plenty of photos whilst the work is in process. This will give you some evidence if anything goes wrong. I've heard quite a few horror stories in my area of shoddy workmanship, not cleaning up properly afterwards and etc etc.
Good luck !.................

Don't know where in the country you are, but my mum is just having this done at the moment. It's been horrendous....
She was told it would be 3 weeks in total originally... 7 weeks later it is still bedlam (although finally grinding to a halt). The first lot of contractors walked off the job, then there was a week's gap until the council found some more, then they have been fixing the appalling (and dangerous) bodge-ups made by the first lot. Her cooker grill now blows the electrics if she tries to use it (having always worked fine) but the council insist that is nothing to do with them. She was left with a gas leak overnight. Pipework is just run everywhere & anywhere with no thought as to what anything looks like, or if you might burn your hand on it (ie when it's next to a light switch).
I am incredulous at the standard of shoddy workmanship that councils are prepared to accept - and indeed condone.
So, sorry to be so "down" about it, but I would suggest that you be very prepared for chaos & don't be afraid to clearly point out problems as you go along & make sure they resolve them.
Good luck - I hope it does go well for you & doesn't end up like the above....Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)

Even when they are re wiring the leccy isn't off the whole day as they need it to run their equipment.
My daughter had no kitchen for 2 weeks just before xmas when the council put a new one in for her too. The contractors were given funds from the council to put into the tenants electric meters to run their tools. Make sure you ask them about this as they often "forget" to mention it.
DD had her fridge freezer and microwave in the living room. We cooked a lot of stuff like stews casseroles a few weeks before and she found it not to badHow does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -
fingers crossed eh? im gonna spend next week (they start on the 4th) stocking up on flap jacks and things like that.... although ive only had a weeks notice to sort this out... my poor dogs gonna spend most the day on the balcanoy as the electrics men will not do it if he is in the room.... im just gonna try and use up what i got first... im hoping it wont be to bad... i just hate the idea of strangers wandering around my house.....
