And they recycle them round our way, not that we've seen a dustcart since before Christmas...;)
ETA: Maybe he means the cardboard Tetrapak variety, with the wax coating. Havent seen one of those for a while!
we use UHT milk in tetrapak type cartons and they seem to have an almost metallic plasticy coating on the inside.sealed pot challange #572!Garden fund - £0!!:D£0/£10k0 -
Ordinary milk in litre sizes comes in waxed paper tetra packs here, which are good on the fire/stove. Orange juice etc comes in tetra packs that are lined with aluminium - Don't know about UHT cartons, I haven't had any for ages.....could of done with having some in though.............
It's official - we are the coldest place in the country & we are running out of logs - eeeek & animal feed eeeek.:eek:0 -

`The polythene "jugs" that supermarkets milk comes in, make pretty good fire lighters.
Smells like candle wax - burns like candle wax.
You shouldn't really burn this stuff as it's a carcinogenic.
I don't think there is anything dangerous about clear "Poly ethylene" it is similar to gas lighter fuel.
You may be thinking of PVC and similar; Chlorine and its family of similar elements are know in Germany as the Devil's elements because they burn to produce compounds that give you chloracne in the short term and probably cancer in the longer term - there is not much heat in PVC anyway.

I think the government should be stepping in like they did in the 60s. Then, the car park in my town became a heliport and the farmers on Exmoor were supplied from there. It was almost non-stop in daylight hours.
Wish I could send you some of our logs, which arrived this afternoon. I spent the morning clearing a way through for the 4x4 and trailer and created an alternative drop zone, only to find I'd wasted my time, as they came via a huge tractor with an equally large link box!
Hope you get some relief from all this soon.0 -
oohh Davesnave....logs..... are they very local to you? I need some decent wood (hate burning coal but not much choice at the moment) but I can't seem to find anyone supplying good wood! Everyone local to me either doesn't have a fire or collects their own wood which I just can't do with the kids and OH at work all the hours god sends.sealed pot challange #572!Garden fund - £0!!:D£0/£10k0

Yes, the logs are seasoned at a storage place about half a mile from me and, like a lot of country businesses, they don't advertise or do that full time. They just supply locally and probably go no further than Chulmleigh. The up-side is that you get a lot for your money. The down-side is that you don't know when they'll arrive!0 -

All the woodchoppers round our way, sell firewood as well as knocking bits off trees. The wood comes in varying quailty however, find a decent one and stay with them.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
We had a dead tree down a gorge - the little gorge at the top, and we spent yesterday getting it & logging it.
I'm amazed at how much wood we've got through. Next Winter (heaven forbid it's going to be as bad) I hope to have a much bigger stash of logs.0 -
I'm hoping to fit a logburner with backboiler for next winter, rather than open fire and hot water via immersion heater. Can anyone tell me if an ordinary plumber is all that's needed for fitting the stove and connecting the boiler, tank and pump etc? Is this a specialist job or can local tradesmen carry out the installation - any info about what's most economical would be much appreciated?I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
