buying out a contract

I am on an 18 month o2 contract which ends in october. The phone i have is a nokia 6300. at first this phone was great but now its in a right state (partly to do with myself ) but also it randomly switches itself off. An option i have is to send it away to be repaired but to be honest id rather a new phone.
i phoned o2 last week and asked them about upgrading my phone after 12 months (end of 12 months is next month) they said its not possible, i explained that i cannot see my phone lasting until then but they said there is nothing they can do.
the question i have (which i should have asked them but totally forgot) is if i was to buy out the remainder of my contract could i then continue the contract but have an upgrade early?if that makes sense?
so i want to end contract early by paying up the remaining contract but then upgrade, keeping the same number in the same way as if my contract was actually ending for real?
cheers

Depending on the tariff you have it could just be cheaper to buy a PAYG handset (either o2 or unlocked). The 6300 would prob be cheaper to buy PAYG than two months of your tariff let alone the remaining six, then just upgrade at the end of the 18 months to something all singing and dancing or switch to simplicity if the 6300 is still good enough/unbattered enough for you.If this has been of any use please click on THANKS, it makes me look good.0
