Braun Men's Razors Half Price- Boots (merged)

Hi,
I thought i'd post this outside of the boots bargain thread, as it's not really an impulse buy kind of thing, as quite expensive, and this will be easier if anyone is looking for Razor/shaver posts. but please move this if you like.
the OH has extremely thick/fast growing stuble, and needed a new shaver, as his gave up the ghost. i did my best to find a bargain for him, but to no avail, so we just headed to boots to get the one he had his eye on.
turns out it was half price in boots. there was no indication in the boots we were in. it was just marked at 74 squid. the price should have been 150. there were a couple of others the same, which we knew should have been more. these were the new, self cleaning braun razors.
there were also some good deals on phillishave razors, but these weren't self cleaning.
I hope that helps someone.

I don't you suppose you know what the model number was - I need a new shaver too and quite like the Braun things.
ThanksI do hope you're telling the truth?0 -
oh, i think it was 8595, or 9585. it's the activator one. there's also a synchro one, but that's apparently not as good, despite being a bit more expensive. and also the activator one with an lcd. but the only difference is the LCD.
it definitly seems a bargain if you're looking for a new shaver, as I couldn't find any good deals anywhere else.
(and you get advantage points!)0 -
Is it this one?

Just been back from Boots. They have many discounts on the electric razor front. Most of the Braun razors have been discounted:
7493 now £86.66
8585 now £74.99
8595 now £92.49 (only difference between the 8595 and the 8585 is the LCD thingy)
Reason for the major drop in prices is that Braun is bringing out a new electric razor with 360 degrees something or other.
Some of the Philips ones have also been discounted."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Thank for this. I've wanted a decent shaver for simply ages, but have never been able to justify spending the amount of money asked (I tend to blanch at the thought of £200 for shaving, they really are milking it aren't they). £100 is still pushing the boat out, but what the hey.
Post appreciated. ThanksI do hope you're telling the truth?0 -

Looks like I might have to go for their half-price sunglasses after reading your post0 -
hi,
The OH bought the 8585 one, and is mightily impressed. he has a really tough beard, and wet shaving is just too painful for him.
he really didn't want to spend 200 quid on a shaver, but was contemplating it as it's such a big part of his life, and so much pain if the razor isn't good enough.
anyway, he says hte 8585 is the best thing ever. he doesn't even feel it take the hair off, no tugging of the skin or anything, it just glides over. and he's hoping that the self cleanning will keep it clean and sharp for longer.
although the cartridges are expensive, it's probably worth it, esp as he saved so much on the shaver.
the lady in boots was very helpful. she thought teh 8585 was the best buy, better then the one at 85 quid as that's an old version, and the only diff between the 90 quid one is the lcd, otherwise its the same shavor.

I can recommend the 8595... I've had one for around 18 months. It takes a couple of weeks for your face to get used to them, then they shave quite close.
They're good if you have sensitive skin, or suffer from ingrowing hairs as they are always clean, and fully charged.
Ok you have to keep buying the refills (one last about 6 weeks) but it is worth the extra money.
Mine packed in after 12 months (it melted!) but now (eventually) have a replacement. The time without it was spent with a Philishave, which though OK, is less convenient with rinsing it and charging it separately.0
