I for one have chosen not too divulge any of my debt details to anyone.

neither did I. I was brought up that debt or asking for money was a shameful thing. I remember as a child, on more than one occasion having a note given to me and asked to go to my Nan's or occasionally a friend's house and the note would ask for money towards the electric or gas bill. My Nana would always say 'don't tell your grandad' and it was all so 'underhand', I grew up with the shame of asking for money. I'll lend anyone my last quid, but i'd never ask to even borrow one and if I was in that situation because of some extreme issue, I'd be mortally ashamed. It was only under the cloak of anonymity (a different user name to be honest) that I was able to talk about and clear my debt.
Things are quite tight at the moment and I am finding that we are having to duck and dive going out with friends, having to lie more and more to friends abd family about the reason why we havent yet bought a house etc etc.

Is there anything else you could say instead - we're saving up? we think the housing market might go down even more over the next couple of years?
Personally I want to tell the world because in actual fact my lightbulb moment almost 2 years ago now was the most liberating experience of my sad little life so far.

Stop right there matey. Now, I know you quite a bit now ;) and there is no way you can say you have a sad little life. You are a fantastic guy, really funny, head screwed on, great job and a future ahead of you whatever road you decide to take in life. Believe in yourself - look at how far you've come!!!!

My financial situation will be changing for the better quite considerably in the not so distant future

    :T :j

and whilst I was conisdering telling friends and family I am gonna put it on hold until I can see if the extra money allows to do more things and therefore maintain our debt free image without wasting it all if you see what i mean.

oh, ok, cut the previous  :D

I dont think it is the inability to buy things or go out that is the problem it is the deceit that is the worst so at least with the extra money we shall not feel quite so stifled. Does that make sense?

It does. At the end of the day though, what you choose to reveal to friends and family is completely up to you. Other people you know could be in a worse situation than you and be drowning and not had their LBM, but don't want to admit to it and so keep up the debt free image, which in reality is a facade.

Think about your 'positive thinking' and sit quietly and remember what you've achieved so far.

then stop the sad little life bit, because you're a fab person and join us for a  (well, a cheap one at least!!) :D

  • Thanks Keren. Do you know that if I told my dad I am sure he would pay my remaining debt off in a flash which would be great but..... i would never have been here and realised the error of my spending ways and it would really stop him in his tracks and he thinks so highly of me but equally at the same time I think he would be quite proud of what I am doing with regard to my debt. And as for my friends i am sure that they would think no less of me but they would be shocked I am sure.

Lenny a poem just for you

Our boy Len was not content
Unless he played with wet cement.
One day alas in his backyard,
He stayed too long and set quite hard.

    With apologies to Max Fatchen
