you can get voda to imei bar the handset, but this doesnt stop the thiefs from taking the phone abroad where it should work

You must report it as stolen to your provider (Vodafone) as, until you do so, you are liable for calls made.
You can call Vodafone customer services free from a landline on 0808 0000 166.0 -
So it is, didn't realise that.Thats absolutely right Dave, but the handset/sim is PAYG so call cost is limited.
You will still need to report it to Vodafone in order to have another SIM issued with that phone number.0
