frying pans- the best ones?

I apologise if this has already been asked. I did check the threads and found something posted in 2004 so thought it might be ok to ask again in case opinions have changed.
Basically, I'm after a new frying pan having ruined the one I've got! I currently have a le creuset frying pan but do find it heavy and have to hold the handle with an oven glove when hot due to metal handle which is a pain.
Shall I get another le creuset or go for another make? I'd rather pay more and have it last a long time.
Any thoughts would be very gratefully received. Thank you.

Not top brand by any means, but I've always used Tefal non-stick ones.
Non-stick frying pans are like magic - do the grubbiest fry up imaginable and a dunk in Fairy and they're sparkling again.
Personally I've found Tefal ones perfectly good, and one line of theirs has a red spot in the middle that changes colour when it's up to cooking temperature.0 -
I recently changed from Tefal to Tesco's own make anodised alluminium pan and it is fabulous...i cook paellas, risottos and fry-ups in mine and its easily cleaned etc.
Hope this helps. If you obey all the rules...you miss all the fun!! Katherine Hepburn0 -
Depends what you want it for. If you want non stick then I think Tefal are pretty good, but I swear by my Meyer stainless steel one. No it's not non stick, but I use it to brown meat and then deglaze the pan for the juices. It doesn't stick unless you go beserk with the heat and don't oil it... mine has a metal handle but it doesn't get too hot to hold unless you stick the whole pan in the oven.0

highjacking the thread. Just bought a wok, does a tefal nonstick wok do just as well in the cooking dept.I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0

ive got a tefal frying pan and wok and they are both fantastic. the red thingy in the middle changes to a big red dot and then you know it is time to chuck your food in to cook.
they are non stick which is great, as in the past my culinary skills have been less than desirable.
i think they were about £20 quid each from argos, had them nearly two years and still as good as new.0 -
I would personally avoid teflon type non-stick surfaces. All the ones I have tried deteriorate after a year or two, no matter how careful you are they scratch and if you get the pan too hot it ruins the coating.
All my pans are uncoated stainless steel now, including the frying pan which was only cheap, but have not had a problem with them (apart from a broken handle) and expect them to last many years more.
I regularly burn things in the pans, but after a soak and sometimes a quick scrub with a wire washing-up brush they clean up fine.
A medium priced pan should use a thicker gauge metal and have a heavy encapsulated base, also the handle attachment should be more durable.0 -

I've found Tefal non-stick last 2-3 years, and I'm certainly not that careful with them heat wise.
Obviously use plastic utensils - metal scratches the non-stick coating straight away. Don't scrub with a wire scourer either! But then you don't need to since they're non-stick.0 -
i have the Stellar 6000 hard anodized and think they are great, nice weight great non stick serface and dishwasher safe. Aint cheap but worth the money.0

Tefal all the way here, I couldn't be without it - you don't even have to use oil0

Just wondering can you use the stainless frying pan to do a fry up, won't the food e.g eggs stick to the pan? Thanks0
