Calling UK from abroad

If you have an "Open" mobile you can buy a Pay as you go French Sim card 15 euro, it then costs 75 euro cents per min to call UK. I use Orange Mobicarte.
Alternatively you can buy 10 euro Phone cards in any French P.O. or tabac which will give you around 2hrs from a French landline (cabin or home) using an access number. I think 16 digits then Int code etc etc. Instructions in English.
The advantage of the sim is that you can receive calls & texts. Disadvantage is no international calls for 48hrs after registration of the sim (first call)
Hope this makes sense. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
That's right, buy a PAYG SIM, but buy one of the alternative ones, like NRJ Megaphone. They charge way less per minute than the big names (Orange, SFR, Bouygues, etc). Now instead of calling the UK directly, set up a Manifone account (remember to switch to Advanced mode and select Paris as your city under Direct Numbers). That allows you to reach UK contacts on Paris phone numbers. Combining Manifone with a cheap french PAYG SIM like NRJ Megaphone will let you call the UK for about 30p a min versus 75p/min!0
