oh, for goodness sake, get mousetraps, set them where the mice run, and KILL them. Then scrub and disinfect wherever they have been.
Then be prepared for a second wave and KILL them also. They are VERY nasty and I entirely sympathise with you, but whose home is it? Get in there gal, and just get rid in any way you can (including your Council Enviro Health dept)
    good luck

I have disinfected all the bottles and cans yesterday with Milton (the one that you clean baby stuff with, I think) ... but of course not that thoroughly. So am going to do this them again tomorrow.

I never thought they will cut through the thick turkey foil. DH will buy wire wool also.

I think they can get through solid wood and concrete, so foil is no problem.
I'd go for the fast action mouse killer.

I had thought of mouse killers, but what if they die in the floor boards. Will we have to remove the floor boards to get rid of the smell.

Sorry this is the first time we have had mice in the house so don't have much idea

Use traps - they're about £1 each, and you'll know when you've caught them ;) Mouse bodies tend not to smell much - they mummify

I'll add this to the exisitng thread on mice to give you more suggestions.

We've got mice in our flat & having bought some poison & put it down I don't think it's working - went to put some washing on to discover they've found where we put the rest of the box & had chewed through the cardboard to get to the rest of it!

Annoyingly, we're renting & the landlady has passed it on to the HA who manage the block (other flats who own have seen them too) have done nothing so far - does anyone know if we can go direct to the council & ask them to charge the HA?

We had them in the cupboard under the sink. I put poison down but they also chewed their way into the packet and ate the rest!

After that I sent DH to B&Q for a couple of old fashioned traps-we caught three mice in less than a day and haven't seen any signs of them since then.

We've only been in our new house for a few days, I just went into the kitchen, turned the light on, and a massive mouse scuttled across the floor  I don't want to kill the little thing, but I don't want it living with us either. I have absolutely no idea where it got in, and I'm too scared to go back into the kitchen and investigate :o We also have unpacked boxes everywhere which I don't want to look in incase there's little mousies in there too, nightmare!
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important
