How long do searches remain on credit file?

I heard it's 6 months, is this true?

Yes, i was wondering why i would no longer get any card, well i was offered some stupid 49.9% thing, nuts,,

think i will have to wait a while before applying for any more 0% deals,, just have to pay the stupidly high interest that MBNA have landed me with, going from an already high 19.9 > 34.9% apr, from 1st april,,

because of these searches even my bank of 18 years would not add to my mortgage just to get on the good 5% it has for a short term loan,

I have about 10 credit cards, my partner has 5 in her name too

Credit score shows poor, but we pay every month with no missed payments,, think its the available credit and outstanding debt thats a problem, think i have about £10k available even tho its spread over the 10 cards they still see it as a bad risk

MBNA also kicked me in the teeth, i had a virgin card, it had £2500 credit limit on it, balance was £2200, so i paid it of as there was a 0% offer on there for 10 months, i had a holiday to pay for, £3k needed, so i was just about to Balance transfer £2400 from the virgin card when my Avaliable balance dropped to £500, i was livid, phoned them up to say what was going on and how was i going to pay for my now due holiday, but i was told i was reviewed, darn it

The searches are on your record for 12 months and creditors can see this.
Not sure if some people are getting a little confused about the 3 credit checks within 6 months guide. It is the last 6 months that usually count towards your credit score, with anything older than this having very little effect on the score - according to those that used to work in the industry. There are no hard and fast rules to this, but is a useful guide to remember.
