I'm having trouble with my Safecom wireless router.
When I switch it on sometimes it doesn't fire up properly and the Lan Light comes on and the ADSL doesn't. Sometimes the ready light doesn't come on at all.
Sometimes only the power light comes on.
I don't really want to send it back to E7even for checking as it means I will be offline for the duration. However it's occured to me that leaving it on 24/7 might be the answer to avoid the problem when warming up.
Hence the question. Can you or should you leave your router running all the time?
Until I get a laptop I'm not actually using the wireless facility so when I close the PC down I've been closing everything down but the router isn't going to use a lot of power so it could be left on to avoid problems but is this wise?

I leave my netgear router on 24/7 along with the server. Only time they get switched off is either a quick reboot or service to server.0

Apart from the occasional reboot mine's been on 24/7 for the last 3 years. Can't see the point of unplugging it routinely.

Our router and modem are both permanently on and, like TOG's have been for at least 3 years barring the odd reboot etc.. I don't think our power consumption has increased because of this.0

I leave mine on too.
Maybe the problem is with the ISP rather than the router?Torgwen.....................

Well left it on last night and was spared the worry of will it boot up or will it mess me around, this morning. Having a temperamental router is not good news for someone whose temperamentally grumpy. It really was a bonus being spared the agony of will it or won't it work first time.
However what happens if the weather is going to thunder and lightning?
I've lost my phones in previous storms. I've got surge protectors but I'm not sure they would cope with lightning down the telephone line.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

There's a negligible risk. How often have you been hit by lighting that's resulted in electrical equipment being written off in the last ten years? You have to balance that risk against the accumulation of all your valuable time you're wasting booting it every day, to protect a piece of kit that only costs about £40.
