the interest you pay on the loan is inflation which is always lower than the highest paying accounts

Ah, some of us older than you can remember when inflation was much higher than interest rate. There is nothing to say that this situation cannot return.

fair point, if inflation becomes higher than interest, then pay off the student loan and with any luck, you'll have made some money out of your loan...

  • Hopefully I wont come out of university with too much debt, Im studying for a nursing degree then onward to become a midwife, I know with dependants allowance and student loan I should have enough to pay for transport to uni and childcare costs so anything left I was thinking of wacking into a high interest account so I could pay it back at the end, what do you think?

  • Thankyou x
  • I bought 3000k in Oct 06 and have won every month since December all in the same block. 2x50 in Dec, 1X50 Jan and 1x50 & 1x100 Feb. I was very supprised and cant wait till the end of the month to see if i have done it again.

But I wonder if there is something going on. Perhaps they (some how) give new numbers more chance to win, which in turn would encourage them to buy more bonds thinking that they are going to win even more. And then of course eventually the winnings will dry up.

If i do win next month I will be very supprised

    what is your holding?

I bought a block of £1000 in June 2003 which has won me the 2x£50. I have also bought some additional blocks since then to make a total holding of £3000. I must say the return has been poor but I still keep my fingers cross.
  • I bought a 1k block in june 06, and have won nothing. The rest of my bonds, some purchased from 1986 have won me absolutely nothing so far :)

So I'm going to take out the 1k and leave in the £300 and see what happens.
