Just to show that winning is the luck of the draw.....
Sadly my Mam passed away on Valentines Day 2020 just before Covid. She had £16,000 in premium bonds and she had a win almost every month. A year after her death, the bonds were shared between me and my brother. We both invested £8,000 in our own names and the amount of winnings is very different. I won £25 the first month and nothing since. My brother had nothing the first month but has won something for the past 5 months. Im the one that checks on the ns&i site and he thinks its hilarious that hes winning and Im not.
Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £601 -
The prize fund actually dropped from 1.4% to 1% in December 2020 which would go part-way to explaining this, I guess ?Kantankrus_Mare said:Sadly my Mam passed away on Valentines Day 2020 just before Covid. It still doesn't add up. Only two of the £10,000 wins in November were from bonds purchased in May '21, and one of those was a purchase of £18,000, the other a purchase of £6,000.IvanOpinion said:
Good question. I bought them under my wife's name; she has told me that she is not aware of any other bonds - maybe it is time to get her to check properly (might have even more to declareeskbanker said:
Just out of curiosity, do you have other holdings beyond that £500, or was your £10K built up over multiple prizes? The high-value prize winners list has all £10K winners holding at least £4K but none of the £5K winners were from a newish £500 purchase either - are you not on that list?IvanOpinion said:Changed my car earlier this year and when I emptied the various compartments of loose change (£1 and £2 coins, plus a few notes) that had been thrown in there it was just over £300. I topped this up to £500 and bought some bonds in May (just in time to miss the June entry). So far winnings

Looks like NS&I are cracking down on duplicate accounts: https://www.express.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/1526173/Premium-Bonds-prize-winnings-nsandi-nsi-old-savings-fund-rate-UK-2021
I suppose it is very easy to do that if you unknowingly had a a few pounds of paper bonds somewhere, and then opened an online account and bought the maximum holding.0 -
Or somebody like grandparents set up a surprise account for a baby and then died without revealing the information or the bonds winning any prizes and then the child, when an adult set up their own account many years later.0

I doubt it adversely affects that many people, only those with multiple accounts with a combined holding in excess of the maximum £50K.
