Any long term subscriber to this thread you may recall my spate of bad service out of Manchester’s ASDA Eastlands Store, and nothing my new store in Ellesmere Port has done is really ever in the league of incompetence of that.

However, over the last couple of weeks I have had delivered to me several bags of shopping which didn’t belong to me, which I returned immediately to the driver (obviously, I’m way too honest), and have over several weeks had an excess number of items, again on each occasion I returned these to the driver. In summary, I didn’t complain and I returned all of it.

This morning I received a pack of nappies, in addition to those I ordered (which again I returned), fresh fruit packed in a bag with raw meat items, mouldy fruit, wrongly picked items, and wet shopping. Most of the cardboard packed items were only surface water damaged, but one particular box was so wet that the box had unglued and was sodden throughout. I accept that most was probably rain damage, caused on loading, as it wasn’t raining when the delivery took place, though one bag I am sure must have landed in a puddle or something. Of course, the majority of the problems only became apparent, when we were unpacking the shopping, after the driver had departed

    THE PROBLEM:

We phoned ASDA Customer Services, with the following issues:
    • Long standing issue of frequently mis-delivered items
    • Damaged items – with particular attention being drawn to a packet of cereal that was significantly water-damaged
    • Perished fruit item
    • Fresh fruit packed alongside raw meat
    • Item that had been mis-picked and wasn’t what I had ordered
    THE RESULT:

ASDA Customer Services wouldn’t help because (in their opinion) we had had too many refunds made to our card. The impression we were lead to infer is that they are under the belief that we are being in some way dishonest or fraudulent in our complaints. My defence is that if ASDA didn’t mess up my order so consistently, I wouldn’t have to request a refund and my ‘phone bill would be significantly lower as a result.

Surely poor service leads to frequent complaints, and certainly these should be investigated instore and resolved for the good of all customers?

The funny side is that ASDA Customer Services made US feel dishonest and managed to make us feel that we were somehow at fault. However, on reflection, if ASDA are really inclined to point the finger at anyone with accusations of impropriety of any kind, people employed in maintaining law and order probably are not the best choice. We haven’t even ever had a parking ticket, always pay our taxes on time and return wrong change. In addition, we are also kind to children and small furry animals...

Has anyone else experienced this response from ASDA Customer Services, and if so what happened?

They claim that the home store will contact me, however, when they have claimed this in the past it NEVER happens, and it hasn’t so far today either and the sun is well over the yardarm… TD.

I think there is only one thing for you to do Trolley, write them a snotty letter and don't use Asda again.

Trolley, I never complain to the ironically named customer helpline as they are mostly rude & unhelpful. I ALWAYS call the store that delivers my shopping & speak to the store manager if speaking to a home shopping person doesn't resolve my issues. I find that most staff blame someone other than themselves but the store manager is usually helpful.

I agree with skybaby. Find out which store does your delivery (its not always the one closest to you) and speak to the store manager. I used cs a couple of times and mostly only got joy when I spoke Afrikaans. They are based in South Africa. Then one day someone insulted me to a colleague...whether he thought he was on mute or just expected me to think he was commenting about his system I dont know. I immediately reverted to Afrikaans and insisted on speaking to a manager. They are given a very basic script as they are not familiar with the UK and they seem to think the distance gives them license to offer poor service-also, it is the culture in South Africa to naturally be suspicious of others. I was raised in South Africa myself and the kind of apathy that comes from their call centre is exactly what made me come to the UK.

I SO would have loved to be a fly on the wall to see their reaction when they realised you had not only heard what they said but understood it too :D
  • i've found asda customer services rubbish. recently they refused to serve me to long life milk in exchange for my milk tokens, even though i've used them for this since our daughter was born. they made me feel like some kind of criminal in store and kept me waiting at customer services for 45 minutes while they waited for head office to phone back, just to tell me they couldn't give me the milk.
i contacted the milk token supplier who said asda were talking out of their a**** and to go back with a copy of the page on the token website stating that any liquid milk can be bought with the tokens. they were really rude in the store when i went back and reluctantly served me.
i wrote a long letter of complaint to head office and never even got an apology.
if i wasn't so skint i'd shop somewhere else

Me too-but I did a shop at Tesco's online today and using a £13 off e-coupon I managed to get 4 delivery baskets (those huge green ones) with delivery for £150.00. I'll definately carry on trying there.
Think I'll move to the tesco's thread to brag about my buys there lest I hijack this thread:o
