Run a Car or Taxi/Rent a car ?

What are the current figures or calculations as to running a car or using Taxi’s & hire cars? With the cost of running a car increasing all the time, is it worth it, say for only 8k miles a year. My local hire company have some great deals on at the moment & they deliver to your door. I have an 03 Toyota Yaris 1.3 which only does a max of 7k a year & is serviced by a small independent garage for a once a year service & MOT. Its used for a weekly trip to Hull & odd 3 night trips to Northumberland & then mainly local use. I live 10 mins walk from town centre & I’ve just got my bus pass ! Your comments are most appreciated.

There's no straight forward calculation, as everybody's circumstances are different. However, using some very rough assumed figures, your car is probably costing around £225 a month, give or take £25 (depreciation, fuel, insurance, tax, etc.)
If you can rent a car and/or use buses for less than that a month, you're better off financially. Of course, you have to weigh that financial benefit (if applicable) against the benefit of convenience of having a car.0
