bt phone bill/ help with what to do to save money

Well £7.87 for three months line rental with BT is very cheap and not one I have heard about before BUT as you are finding the downside is if you make a lot of calls you are being charged big time for the calls.

You really need to get yourself onto BT Option1 with £10.50 per month line rental if paid by dd and then sign up for a CPS that will give you free calls evening and w/ends as already mentioned and sign up for www.call18866.co.uk for any daytime calls you make and www.call1899.co.uk for cheaper calls to mobiles.

If you want to think about it you could go to Talk Talk and get all your 01/02 calls free 24/7 for 3 months.Not just your evening and weekend ones.
