Help needed urgentish - Bulldog 1Mg Service

Please can someone help me out here as I am going spare!

I have 2 laptops (L1 & L2) connected with:

2xBelkin 125mbps wireless network cards
1xActiontec 54mbps wireless DSL router
1xmicrofilter

phone setup is fine and router is plugged into main socket downstairs with laptops directly above but upstairs.

Whyyy then does this give me:

L1: 1mbps and Low signal
L2: 2mbps and Very Low signal

I do know that the router is of lower bandwidth than the cards - is this a matter of changing the router to 125mbps or even just the antenna?

Please help me I am really behind in work and personal stuff as Bulldog took 3 weeks to deliver and now its worse than my dialup that I had!

Could be due to wires/pipes in the way.
Try moving Router to anothe phone sopcket. Might be better to be attached to a phone socket upstairs.
    To infinity and beyond!

Suggest you might want to change the title because chances are this is a WLAN issue rather than Bulldog one (though they seem to have enough...).

One thought, other than Mike's advice : have you got a video sender in the house at all (to transmit e.g. Sky from the set-top box to another TV)? We found that they must use a similar frequency band to 802.11 because whenever we power ours up the WLAN performance goes severely downhill.
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

If you don't have much luck on this you could try posting within the Techie Stuff and point them to this page.
  • No video sender but have got sky (and so have both my neighbours!) - they may even have a video sender! I also have a microwave (not an issue as unplugged to check) and a cordless phone - wonder what my neighbours have? ... and where does it stop?

I have been on tech support and they reckon its interference - I reckon its their crappy Actiontec router so I'm off to get a branded router.

And yes, I've tried moving stuff around till I'm blue in the face!

keep any suggestions running though as I do read this ... when I'm connected.

    Thanks ...

Maybe a silly queston but have you tried the laptops nearer to the router to see if they work fine then?
  • Right here was my solution to resolving very poor delivery of a continuous service.

I set up my network so that the Belkin 125g cards were activated but they do not receive a good enough reception from upstairs with the router being downstairs.

So first I switched to a qulaity modem/router - decided on the Belkin 125g wireless modem/router F5D6033UK - this helped somewhat in that I was now at least able to surf albeit a mere 2-5 mins maximum if at all. £80

Then and this is what resolved the issue to be frank - I bought the new MIMO card known as pre-n -its called that because its a taster for the new 802.11n wireless standard due to come out 2006/2007. There are a number of other products in the belkin range but careful as some are for DSL/cable modems not the ADSL that I/many have.

The difference is one extreme to the other and truly fantastic I am now streaming Yahoo's 100k music videos whilst surfing without so much as a single frozen screen.

So now I'm gonna return both the 802.11g cards at £25 each for another one at £60 - well worth it!

This did the trick almost instantly! (I checked by reinserting the old card).

It is really important for me to get this sorted as I need a stable connection as I work from home - mind you now this can be an wifi hotspot as this card's signal is strong enough for wifi cafes/hotspots. The future is here now!
