Debit Card Theft

  • Hi there, I've just had £350 removed from my account a few days ago by Aqua Pay. And, no, I'd never heard of them either! They have put me over my overdraft limit and I'll have to wait at least 6 weeks until I'm refunded. As a single mum they have crippled us financially until June!! How can banks authorise these payments?? I despair!

Thanks, As soon as we found out, we cancelled our cards, yet this "Fastengine" managed to take out another £1.3k before we knew it.

Just wondered if anyone knows how the banks act on this, as its all a bit shocking for us. They've actually used the visa debit and not the chip and pin.

My dad has just had money taken with his debit card, the companies were Business Bump and Assessorise boutique, someone has taken my fathers initials and made a name, bought maternity wear and wedding shoes online, his bank (Halifax) are being very laid back about it, and on the 2nd day of money going out of his account he spoke to his bank again,(he lives on his pc at the mo and checks online his bank balance, and rang the bank as soon as he saw) who said oh well we need you to fill out a form to say it wasn't you.

My parents have just moved to France and couldn't afford just to pop back to visit the bank, so i have stepped in as a 3rd party, i spoke to the bank and told them that they had all the information could they start acting, they claimed to of sent the form, but 2 weeks later they haven't, i spoke to the police and they told me they wouldn't do anything until the bank contacted them.

It was my dad's debit card, not my mum's but they haven't a clue how.

The only constructive thing done by the bank at the mo is to cancel the cards, and still money left the account and they allowed it, they have offered to up my father's overdraft, but he really doesn't want that as thats more charges he would have to pay, although eventually the bank would give it all back.

They are worried sick as just moving to a new country they feel a bit isolated.

Good luck to you though, the bank should investigate the matter and then eventually you will get your money back, check with your bank to see if you need to fill out any forms before they taken proper action.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

Hi there, thanks for all support. We did get a crime reference number from the police, they said it was the largest amount they had ever had in this town, and they couldn't believe why the bank didn't freeze it when they first spotted it and let another 12 transactions go through. The bank in question is NATIONWIDE!!!! Checked this morning and thankfully there are no other illegal transactions, probably because they've gone back to a proper job. We've never used our debit cards for internet transactions, only used at local big supermarket chains ie Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and petrol stations at these supermarkets and the diy chains such as B&Q etc, and that's it. Nothing really out of the ordinary that we've done for four years. Boring I know, but at least we know we're pretty normal.

We don't know which card has been cloned and trying to find out is near impossible, if they could identify which card, then we would just be able to identify the most likely location and transaction. Nationwide are not exactly forthcoming with identifying which one, as other banks usually have the last 4 digits of the cards 25 digit number Trying to get through to the Fraud office of Nationwide ..... well you may as well give up, you can be on hold for hours on end and so you may as well settle down with a drink and nibbles, and listen to the grating music.

Looking at some of the other threads it seems we're all in the same boat in one way or another. What the hell is happening? Why cant we get on with our lives instead of having to put them on stop for some ar****le that can't get on with their own and ruining decent peoples lives in the process.

one of our local B & Q's in bristol was involved in card cloning, Muller Road one, even big companies are wrapped up in it, but more of rogue staff they have hired that did it.
