Debit Card Theft

Has anyone else had the misfortune of having their debit card hacked into by Aqua Pay and Fast Engine (We have never heard of these before), until reading other peoples experiences, but it appears that no one has written about "Fast Engine" . We have in 5 days had approx £3K removed from our account, £1K in one day and no approval from the bank. How can this be possible?

We've done a bit of digging on the net and found that these two are linked with online bingo's and online casino's. Never played them!!!!!!

Your experiences please and results from banks etc.

Thanks in anticipation!

I have heard about frauds from Aquapay. Best thing to do is contact your bank ASAP.
  • Thanks, As soon as we found out, we cancelled our cards, yet this "Fastengine" managed to take out another £1.3k before we knew it.

Just wondered if anyone knows how the banks act on this, as its all a bit shocking for us. They've actually used the visa debit and not the chip and pin.

I am sorry to hear of this dreadful experience

The Bank should refund you these fraudulent transantcions. As the transactions are not Chip and Pin, there is no question of you being negligent with your PIN number, and you have reported the fraud so there should be no arguments, it is YOUR money and you want it back.

Is it me or are these fraudulent transactions cropping up every day more and more often ? I have a feeling this is getting out of hand, and nobody (Banks or Police) appear to be doing anything about it

It's not just you, I totally agree with you on this.
  • Well after a gruelling 3 hours at the bank, 30 minutes at the police station, we don't feel we've got anywhere. Apparently the bank spotted the fraudlent action on the 19 March after 6 fraudlent transactions and did nothing about it, but put a note on the account. Yet let another 12 transactions go through still with nothing said. The bank put the ownes on us and said that we should keep a check on our account. Which we do, but as the main fraudlent transactions happened over the Easter period what were we supposed to do.

The police said that they should have frozen the account after they had spotted the fraudlent transactions and got in contact with us. The bank said that they couldn't do that with everybody otherwise it would create mayhem. They have frozen our account before when they checked something else that looked suspect, but rang to confirm that it was ok.

All they said was that it was our responsibility, but they would ensure that we got all our money back. Fat lot of good that is when you've got kids on holiday and what money you do have is frozen until such time that they deem they can release it.

The bank appeared to think that they'd cloned details off one card to make two transactions, but the police said that would be most unlikely, unless someone knows different.

    Your bank is waffling:

Ask your bank for a Crime Reference Number (Just to make sure they've reported it to the Police. (Presuming you didn't receive a crime ref no on you visit. If you did give it to your bank)

Draw your banks attention to article 12.12 of the Banking Code:

"If someone else uses your card details without your permission for a transaction where the cardholder does not need to be present, you will not have to pay anything."

    Good luck

    Which bank are you with?
  • happened to me with barclays.

first i reported to barclays and they said get crime number from police which i did then barclays sent claim form out and money was put back in account within 2 weeks.

Police did stress to me not to do banking etc on internet and said don't believe what you are told it is not safe!!!!! so they must be having a lot of this.

why can't people go to work like everyone else has to for their money!
  • Hi there, thanks for all support. We did get a crime reference number from the police, they said it was the largest amount they had ever had in this town, and they couldn't believe why the bank didn't freeze it when they first spotted it and let another 12 transactions go through. The bank in question is NATIONWIDE!!!! Checked this morning and thankfully there are no other illegal transactions, probably because they've gone back to a proper job. We've never used our debit cards for internet transactions, only used at local big supermarket chains ie Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and petrol stations at these supermarkets and the diy chains such as B&Q etc, and that's it. Nothing really out of the ordinary that we've done for four years. Boring I know, but at least we know we're pretty normal.

We don't know which card has been cloned and trying to find out is near impossible, if they could identify which card, then we would just be able to identify the most likely location and transaction. Nationwide are not exactly forthcoming with identifying which one, as other banks usually have the last 4 digits of the cards 25 digit number Trying to get through to the Fraud office of Nationwide ..... well you may as well give up, you can be on hold for hours on end and so you may as well settle down with a drink and nibbles, and listen to the grating music.

Looking at some of the other threads it seems we're all in the same boat in one way or another. What the hell is happening? Why cant we get on with our lives instead of having to put them on stop for some ar****le that can't get on with their own and ruining decent peoples lives in the process.

    Banking Code again:

    Article 10.2

"If you do not recognise a card transaction which appears on your statement, we will give you more details if you ask us. In some cases, we will need you to give us confirmation or evidence that you have not authorised the transaction"

In writing ask Nationwide for ALL information on how the transaction was authenticaed and processed.

    Good luck

    I should have added 10.3

"If we confirm a transaction is unauthorised, any interest charged will be refunded, unless you have acted fraudulentlyor without reasonable care."
