Wireless access

I am looking to get wireless access to the internet.
I have been checking out the dongle's but am not sure whether to wait a few months to see if they drop in price. I use TalkTalk at home for the internet but I want to use my laptop in my caravan at weekends and am looking for a cheap option.
I tested it out this weekend and got a very weak signal to 'testnet' though I'm not sure if this is a free one but it was unsecured so would that mean that I could use it. The signal was so weak that it wouldn't connect.
I read a bit about a repeater boosting a signal, so would this be possible to do on this connection.
Is this the sort of thing I should be looking at? -
'Wifi Wireless AP/Bridge/Repeater w/Ethernet and USB'
'This wireless access point is IEEE 802.11b compliant and operates on the 2.4 GHz frequency range. Usable as an Access Point, Bridge, and Repeater, this wireless access point will fit your wireless needs! For added versatility, use the USB interface instead of plain old Ethernet'
Thanks.
