Hi JB ..just popping by to see how you are?0

Just sat down sorting out money for next month. Need to know quite how skint we are going to be and getting my head round it now.
I have just rung Northern Rock up and just asked out of interest for settlement figures. In my whatsthecost spreadsheet I have always just multiplied the monthly payments by the term of the loan and used that as my outstanding figure. Having rung them up today however they have given me a settlement figure that is £6500 less than what I have down on my spreadsheet.
Now I am a little excited, so I'm thinking, can I use this figure given today (to make me feel better
) I will overpay the loan once I have paid the CC in any event so it will never go over it's full term, in fact I hope to start paying an additional £300 per month to it within the next 18 months.
What figures do everyone else use when calculating what they owe?Long haulers supporters DFW #109NR Loan #1 - £2951.18 Nov 08/0 -
hiya JB! For my loan, I multiply up the remaining payments to get a total. I know the settlement figure would be less, but as I don't see any way of paying it off early, that seems irrelevant. It does mean my total goes down by £391.63 a month on loan payment alone, which is satisfying.
Do you have a plan to pay off your Northern Rock loan?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Cheers Sea, I've come up with a plan though!
I've put in the figure owing today and then put in the interest rate on whatsthecost so it gets calculated every month, and makes me feel a whole lot better when I see the outstanding sum
I will definately pay the NR loan off quicker as I think (hope, pray, beg) that I will be CC debt free in less than 3 years after which I can throw all the money at the loan. Cannot believe how stupid I was when I took it out over 10 years    so the thought that I can start overpaying it in 3 years by £700 means it will be gone a lot lot sooner
So today I have wiped almost £7k off my outstandin figure (kind of...)
Just worked out as well I will have to pay an extra £100 at the debts than normal for minimum payments this month, but only because we did some BT last month and we have to pay the fees so not as bad as I thought. Off to complete the budget - feel far less sick than I did when I woke up this morning.
Also just ordered my tickets for Gullivers Kingdon from Mr Tescos for the kids birthday trip out - proper moneysaving or what!!!Long haulers supporters DFW #109NR Loan #1 - £2951.18 Nov 08/0 -
Well done! Sounds like a good morning's work.
I know, how stupid were we taking out those long loans. Mine was 7 years, I've been paying it for what feels like forever and still well over four years left to go. How I hate it.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
