How do you make your profile private on facebook?

I've tried to do this and the answer is probably staring me in the face. When someone searches for you on facebook how do you make it so they have to add you as a friend before they can see your profile

Not sure if this is exactly what you want but click privacy (top right ) click profile and there you can control who can see your profile and related information

I tried putting everything so only my 'friends' can see. What i'm trying to do is when say, a random person searches for you, instead of it coming up blue so they can click on your name and see your profile, i want mine to come up black so they can't see my profile unless i accept them as my friend. If you can understand that :rotfl: I'm not very clever with computers :o

You can't see anyones profile unless you are a friend - you'll only see their photo & network

Wrong I'm afraid, you have to set it so that not everyone can view your profile.

You can have it so everyone can see.

You can have it so only people in your network and friends can see.

You can have it so that just your friends can see.

Probably more options, but if you don't mess about with the settings, anyone can see your profile.

I found that as I was a member of the Bristol network, I could see most peoples profiles who were also in the Bristol network. I then had to change my privacy settings so other people in the Bristol network could not see my profile automatically. Do you think this is what is happening with yours?

And all well-respected stalkers are aware of the hack that enables them to bypass such "privacy" measures anyway.........

I've never messed with my profile privacy settings, but any friends of friends I look at I can't access their full profiles and I'm certain they haven't all (100's) changed their profiles to private!

So, no i'm not wrong I'm afraid!

But I agree with the network thing - I'm not attached to any network as it restricts my profile settings so maybe if I was a member of a network I could see other peoples full profiles in that network.

I can see many peoples profiles who aren't my friends, so you are wrong in what you intially said.

It just depends on people settings.

    Cross post sorry.
