i am with southern elec and gas should i change now?

Options
i've just noticed they are raising prices by 15 or so % from april. i'm with them for both gas and elec. my gas DD is 25 and elec is 20 a month.

when i try a comparison site, i'm unsure if they are using the newly increased prices for southern elec or not. also it asks me for my current tarriff which isnt in the list. i've got domestic general i think but it doesnt show up in the list.

so my question should i move provider now or wait til april ? any one else with them?

    I'm with them.
I shall be looking at prices carefully!!!
  • I'd like an answer to this one too, as I'm with southern elec for both, does anyone know the answer:confused:

  • well my prob is i'm happy to go ahead any change supplier, using a switching site. but the prob is when it asks for my existing tarriff, its not there in the list.

on my southern elec/gas statement i'm on general saver and domestic general, neither of this are in the drop down list on energy helpline so how do i know the figures are correct if i just select standard tariff?

It mentions your existing prices somewhere on the page.
    Compare with your bills.
You are a low user, Want....try Ebico and add 15%, you will still find them competitive, although Ebico havn't yet mentioned a price rise.
  • so is there somewhere which says who is still to announce a price rise? dont want to switch to someone just before they up the prices??

Ebico are a small independent company with an ethical stance. They re-sell Southern Energy electric and benchmark their prices to them. No price increase announced yet but probably soon.
I pay 2.55pence inc vat for gas and 9.32pence for electric Anglia region. No standing charge, simple bills. Just add 15% to those prices and compare.
Bear in mind that low users cannot take advantage of the lower tier rates. Southern Energy group prices go up on April 1.
  • i am definitely a low user and would rather not have a standing charge. is this an option i can specify when comparing new providers?

When a low user, the only competition to Ebico is the online no standing charge tariffs. Like BG Click . But they and other big companies replace the standing charge with a tier system, which is open to abuse by varying the high rate.
And the discount system is just a bribe.
Simple low unit pricing is needed and a way to compare each provider (as with supermarket unit prices ) This is something Ofgem could push.
  • i've just checked my bills and:

    gas - general saver tariff - standing charge 11.4p/day - 2.210p / kwh
    electric - general domestic - standing charge 15.07p/day - 9.32p/unit

as you see on energy helpline neither of these tariffs are there. if i was to go to ebico should i wait first and see if they increase their prices?

Stay where you are for the time being.
Difficult to compare without exact p.a. consumption in kwh and postal area.
Those prices aint bad and you would probably get discounts annual and perhaps dual fuel.
Wait until confirmation of SE prices and in the meantime keep an eye on Ebico.
