    now then, now then.

had read reviews, and most were favourable. ok, so i was swayed(!) by the thought of jennifer ellison's cleavage filling the screen.

in my defence, i have not been to the movies for some time, so i guess prices do go up with inflation.

but would like to think some quality control is in place, and the punters were considered when they set their prices.

i will stick to getting dvd's (probably cheaper, and mine to keep!) and watching in comfort of my own home from now on.

if you shop around you can get some very good deals on online dvd rentals. and most companies offer cashback via quidco as well. you get to keep abreast with the new releases without getting stuck with a copy of something you dont like, you're not getting clutter, and because its 'low risk' you tend to be much more openminded about what you'll watch - and so discover some real gems

Wow that seems quite cheap compared to Odeon's I've been to...they're usually between 10 and 13 quid a ticket...ridiculous!

simple solution to the problem - don't pay it if you feel it is too expensive.

i enjoy the cinema, but I make it economical by having a Cineworld Unlimited card (£12 per month) and never ever buy food from the cinema.

And if your food was substandard then why didn't you complain, instead of putting a pointless post on the internet?

My wife has an unlimited card. Excellent if you use it each week like my wife uses hers. She will go and see 2 or 3 movies back to back. Before she goes she pops to Asda to buy popcorn, sweets drinks etc and saves a fortune. Sometimes she evens smuggles mcdonalds into the cinema.

The other bonus with having the unlimited card is that on orange wednesdays I can go for free with her!

Once there were these kids being disruptive in the cinema and she had a "word" on the way out and they offered her 2 free cinema tickets which she took.:T

When I go to the Odeon it £7 for 2 tickets with orange Wednesdays, get a couple bottles of water for 40p each from the Sainsburys round the corner, job done. If you choose to pay full price then that's up to you.

i went to odeon in richmond paid £9 for a ticket, being in richmond i expected to be rather posh, but when inside looks like a bomb hit it, the screens are tiny. never go there, i'll stick to cineworld or vue in future.

Things must have changed. I remember writing to complain to the manager of my then local Odeon in Edinburgh, main one in the town, used to have premieres etc during the festival. Very noisey kids during a film which even after complaints little was done about them. Manager wrote back very apolegetic, free tickets to another show, met us when we arrived and drinks in his office. Now that was customer service.
  • I love telling kids to shut up in films- mainly because when Iwas the punter I was always the one who left to get a member of staff.
I hate when people point out that there is something worng with the film/audience AFTER the movie when you can't do much about it... some places will give a comp ticket for it- but you generally get a better response if you go out to speak to someone

i found odeon do not handle complaints particularly well.

i wrote and complained after a bad experience where kids where running amok in the screening, chucking stuff everywhere, shouting out etc, and when i went to find a member of staff to sort them out there was no one to be found.

i really dont expect to have to put up with watching blown up condoms floating past the screen whilst im trying to watch a film so i emailed in a complaint, and a fortnight passed without an acknowledgement. i then wrote to head office. i eventually got a response via email asking me to email the branch manager, and about 6 weeks after the initial visit i was offered a free set of tickets as a good will gesture. i really didnt feel like the complaint was taken seriously, and the staffing problems have got worse not better.

Were you in an odeon as well? I was introduced to the 'gallery experience' at Cardiff Bay Odeon recently and it's a pleasure to go to the cinema again. Yes it is expensive (about £15 per head) but that gets you popcorn, nachos, coffee and soft drinks thrown in as well as the most comfortable seats (bit like sitting on a two seater settee). OH was also chuffed the last time we went there as she saw John Barrowman as well:p

thats the one we use. i begrudge £7 a head though, so £15 a head scares me. will have to try it one day though.

i find vue.. by the stadium.. at least i think its still a vue... a bit cheaper, although its teeny tiny in comparisson, and just not as convenient for parking. havent been to the one oppsite CIA for years.

love chapter too, if only they showed more blockbusters alongside the arthouse stuff *sigh*
