Whats the most economical way?

Is it best to leave my heating on low all day (thermastat at 16 degrees) or to boost heating when It gets cold, ie every couple of hours. We have Oil central heating?

    That question cannot be answered from the information you have given.

    It depends what temperature you boost it to and what temperature you boost it from.

    If you can tolerate the temperature to be at 16 degrees (most couldn't) and keep it at that temperature constantly your bills will be low.

    If your question is that old chestnut, 'Does it take more energy to heat a house up from cold, than keep it at a constant temperature?' there is absolutely no doubt about the answer. i.e. it takes more heat to keep it at a constant temperature.
