Please dont reply again my sides are splitting.

Is there anyone you haven't rubbed up the wrong way? It's a pity the abuse team don't seem to act on abuse reports.

I posted in this thread in an attempt to help someone. Why are you posting here, pray tell?

All depends how you set the container ;)

This illustrates exactly why it's obvious you don't know a thing about encoding video.
Because VDM wont handle mpeg as explained by someone earlier, and thats something I forgot as I always deal with AVI, you missed that didnt you :naughty:

VDM will handle MPEG1 or MPEG2 just fine. It won't write MPEG1 or MPEG2 though, which is what you mean, isn't it?

The point remains that you're encouraging someone to re-encode the video, which will be relatively lengthy process, and will reduce the quality, when all they want to do is join a few mpeg files together, which will take 5 minutes using the app I mentioned, and will result in exactly no quality loss.
I cant converse with someone who doesnt know about a particular subject.

That's where you and I differ, because I have been for about half a thread. :rotfl:

No problem :) It sounds like they are in some unusual format to me. If you want to, I would say it might be worth trying using the MPEG1 System (VBR) option. VBR stands for "variable bit rate" which I would say is uncommon in MPEG1 video files, but most MPEG2 uses it, which might explain why the MPEG2 option is smoother.

Thanks Turbobob, this worked perfectly :D

    Thanks everyone for the help

Errm... I've probably encoded more video than anyone else on the forum.
Pity you cant translate that into working for your living:rotfl:

Have you managed to create a DVD Video or have you kept the files in MPEG1 format and simply burnt them to disc?

Hi, I really hope someone can help me with this, I have been tearing my hair out for weeks!

My wedding DVD has somehow become corrupted  There doesnt appear to be any scratches but some of the files have become unreadable. I have tried all the tricks with polishing/toothpaste/brasso/vasaline but no luck, still cannot read those files  I even bought Elprime which claimed to read unreadable files, didnt work

I hope all is not lost cos I have found the actual vts files on our old desktop. The problem is they are in 4 pieces (well, 5 but one of the files is the menu were you could click to go to different sections, not bothered about that) The files are in .mpg format but I dont seem to have the .vob files anywhere :(

Does anyone know of any way I could get these 4 files together so it all runs together? I have tried so many programs but nothing has worked. I think the programmes need the .ifo and .vob files but I dont have those

If anyone could help you would make my day! I have NTI cd and dvd maker installled on my laptop and could also get hold of nero express 6 if that helps.

The VTS files don't contain any video data, the VOB files do! You need to join the DVD VOB's together with decryptor and then demux the video, recommend TMPGenc. They'll be MPEG2 video. No need to transcode/re-encode anything.

As to why the DVD failed, how old is it? If it's DVD-R then the dye will deteriorate over time. I've got some 5 year old DVD-R's that are now unreadable, and they were high quality Verbatim discs too.

Hi, I didnt have the .VOB file unfortunately, at some point I had copied the disc but didnt know how to rip it properly so just had the vts files which i had encoded to MPEG using xilsoft a while ago. I am glad I had that cos I have managed to put the pieces together again and make it into a dvd file using nero :)

The dvd was a verbatim DVD-R and was about 4.5 yrs old. I know better now and have written the disc to a disc and to my external hard drive, hopefully I wont run into that problem again!

  • Ah if you just want to join MPG videos together then you can use the free version of TMPGenc. You can find it here:

    http://www.free-codecs.com/TMPGEnc_download.htm

Ignore any wizards that pop up and at the top left of the window click File > MPEG Tools > Merge & Cut.

Click Add and add all the videos you want, in sequence. Under Output choose the filename of the merged files, and then click Run

Assuming all the videos are the same framesize, bitrate etc then it'll join them all together, no re-encoding necessary. :)
