When I was a student and worked in a large supermarket, the students were very keen to work Sundays and public holidays, especially when a shift premium was involved. It was the best chance most of us had to supplement Saturday shifts with extra hours, without interfering with our studies, or social lives! Luckily for us, this was in Scotland, where we weren't subject to English trading laws.
There was no shortage of staff who felt this way, and those who wanted to be with their families were able to. Shifts were only about four hours long, so it's not as if anyone worked all day. Except of course the financially eager students, who were fighting to get double shifts.
If people want to shop, and workers want to work, and businesses want to trade, why is anyone getting upset about it?0 -
Some of us have no choice about working bank hols at all so for me, having Sunday off was actually my only day of the week to do all the household bits and if there hadn't been anywhere open it would have been a bit of a pain. Thankfully we were able to do pretty much everything we needed to.0
