Sony Erikson K810 speed dial issue

The phone is set up for speed dial, but when you press the appropriate button, i.e. it takes you to the contacts menu and then you have to scroll through the directory and find whoever you are going to dial. Is this correct as to my mind, this is not speed dial?
On my Nokia 6680, if you also hold the button and it would select the assigned person's number and dial it all in one go. You don't have to scroll through your directory to find the number.I think I may revert back to my Nokia once my contract on the Sony has lapsed. More user friendly.

i set up a speed dial on my k800@k810 for key no. 8. all you have to do is to press 8 then call

Try pressing 8 quickly and then the call button, I think if you press and hold it goes to the relevant part of the phone book ie 8 all your contacts starting t,u or v.
Incedentally I changed from Nokia to SE last time I was offered an upgrade and find the UI more friendly.
