Walls in a bad state after stripping paper

Just a thought. Even if I put plain lining/wallpaper up once it dries you would still be able to see dent etc so either way I have to fill in the trillons of faults wouldn't I. So if I have to do this any way I might as well take the time to do it Georges way
Yes, to reiterate, this is why I did it the 'proper' way and have no regrets. Do it right and do it once. Why load the walls with layer(s) of lining paper when it's just an unnecessary interface?
Getting the rough surfaces you presumably currently have, to a mirror smooth finish isn't really all that hard.
You have high points (peaks, debris) and low points (pits, cracks) relative to the general level of the surface. Scape a trowel thing over the wall and/or use coarse sandpaper to get rid of all the high points. This is SO easy. All you now have, all being well, is a general level and low points. No high points. After sealing the surface with dilute PVA, wipe plaster into all the low points (or simply cover the entire surface) then wipe off again with a hard metal edge (trowel, metal ruler, plastering thing or whatever). Then sand and perhaps go through this loop once or twice more until it's as smooth as a mirror.
Try this approach on 1sq ft of the wall, as a test, and you'll hopefully agree.
Regards

How bad is 'really bad' ? We stripped paper off and the walls were rough, so we did a bit of filling it and then painted. It doesn't look perfect but it isn't bad either. In time - and money - we'll get them skimmed and paint again.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
