I used to do outside catering when my children were small, don't think I could do it now with all the regulations but I have done buffets for friends and relatives to help keep the costs of their celebrations down.0

I've not made money, but I have done things as gifts for people so saving them and myself money - I've done a fair few wedding cakes where the couple have paid for the materials and my gift has been the time. Some of them have been quite elaborate - I learnt the hard way that sitting with the bride for two hours designing a cake with their input does not often produce something realistic. :rotfl::staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

As a student (late 60's!!) stayed rent free in a block of flats in exchange for caretaking jobs mostly cleaning the rather posh hall and stairs, taking out the rubbish, reading meters etc. As a perk I had the boiler room so fitted it out with a ceiling rack and took in tenants washing (mostly sheets).
Also I would buy hock ends of bacon, dissect out the meat and then render the fat into basins of lard, plus crisp up the skins. Three tenants would then buy the crispy bits and lard for more than I paid and I got the meaty bits effectively for nowt.
Also we had a lunch for a discussion group, which I would buy the bits and pieces (salad, rolls, cheese, etc chicken) I got the leftovers which gave me a good variety of goodies for a couple of days. I would also buy a whole chicken, cook it and take off the meat for the sandwiches and then make a soup with the carcass. My fellow students would eagerly come to dine with me and pay towards the ingredients. Result almost no money on food, no money on rent. Saved my skin.0 -

I was thinking about making some marmelade and wondered if it is ok to sell a few jars to cover the costs. I've seen occasional references to selling homemade stuff in posts, but I wonder if it is possible to make any real money from it?
Does anyone sell anything they make? It doesn't have to be food items, anything at all people sell is interesting.
Where do people sell? Does anyone actually advertise?
I know the rules about selling eggs - you can sell at the door if you keep fewer than 350 hens and only sell to 'end users' - but not about anything else.
I'm really looking forward to hearing what you OS'ers out there really get up to.
