Using Old Style to make money

I couldn't sleep and lay there thinking about various OS things. One of those things was this question.

Do any old stylers use their OS skills to make money as well as save money?

The obvious one is Amy of the 'Tightwad Gazette'. But, I'm sure there must be loads of ways to do it.

I'm sure I saw a lad on the tele who made loadsamoney by making marmelade.

I know there was a thread about the WI, they sell stuff at their markets - does anyone do that?

I'd love to know.... ;)

    Hi MoanyMoany

It's a good point. I've often thought about going into production making things like Xmas puds for people. Have never quite got myself organised enough. I know a lot of people make cards. I also make jam and chutneys, but it's where to sell things, we have such stupid rules in this country!

Now and again I make a little money doing typing for people who can't type or who don't have access to a PC. I learned to touch-type many years ago and, having been a legal secretary, I also know how to write an official letter; I'm often called upon to write complaint letters for people! I would like to be able to make more money doing this because it's easy; I've never tried advertising - I just get work through word of mouth but it's not very often. Perhaps I should try advertising in the local paper, or something?

I would also like to have a go at selling things I've made through an Etsy shop or something but there is a lot of competition these days. Has anyone else found that successful?

I'd be interested in how this thread goes so will keep an eye on it!

What's an Etsy shop? I've often thought that a website where people could sell their stuff would be a good idea.

Money Magpie says that if you only cook to sell from time to time you don't have to get involved with all that council stuff. Worth a look.

Etsy is like Ebay, but for handmade/crafty stuff. Everything from clothes to jewellry and art.

I walked round my house, looked at each room and made a list of everything that I did in it. Then thought about how I could make money from each thing on the list, eg. I make cards on the dining table, so I'll sell the cards therefore the dining area is earning it's keep :D
Actually that isn't a great example cos I already sold cards but you get the general idea :D

I have ended up viewing and running the house as a business, seems daft and a bit controlled but it's earning money so :p

    Hiya,

My mum's just started buying my HM bread off me, cos it's half the price of Tesco! She gives me 50p a loaf and they cost me 14p to make (not including gas!).

    She had three today!
