thanks we all need to ditch plastic!! i hope this arrives

I wouldn't say we need to ditch it.

    Not wanting to start a row, a debate yes, lol, but think of it this way;

I disagree with just chucking them in the street or in the bin empty. BUT many people like me, reuse them a few times, then use them to put household rubbish in. I use them as bin liners also.
if they banish them, I ( and you) will have to buy bin liners. Bin liners aren't as strong, you can get less in hem, so you'll probably use 2.
please dont say just chuck rubbish in the bin not in bags cos bins are smelly enough as it is!! LOL

In another country where they banned bags, sales of bin liners just rose dramatically.Plus most bags are biodegradeable these days.

Furthermore, while landfills are concerning, what REALLY bothers me, which everyone seems oblivious to, is exhaust fumes.

Would you allow anyone to smoke in your house, thus allowing your children to breathe in harmful chemicals?

    I wouldn't. You probably wouldn't.

But do you know that exhaust fumes are FAR FAR more dangerous?
In a list 21 ways to beat cancer, avoid exhaust fumes was number TWO!! Avoid passive smoking was much further down the list.

yet people drive a mile to school instead of walking, drive to the paper shop, and what REALLY gets me, sit in their car with the engine ticking over while they are stationary. That is an OFFENCE!! But no-one ever gets fined. Buses picking up kids for trips at school sit with their engines running, and the teachers are too scared to tell them to switch it off!! if they were smoking they'd tell em to put it out tho, even tho the exhaust fumes are far more deadly.

This country needs to get its priorities right. yes I am concerned about recycling and such. Very much. but it bother me far more what my children are breathing in. Think of it every time you use your mobile too, because every time you use it you are ausing dnagerous radiation to be emitted from one of the hundreds of thousands of masts all iover the country. (And no, I don't have a mobile and nor does anyone in our family. We don't agree with the masts so we don't have a phone. PLus they're darned expensive; I'd rather take the kids on holiday than pay for/maintain one)

At last, someone who is not afraid to speak out in this world gone PC mad.

Agree with you Discodee re bags - posted much the same thing a couple of years ago.

    I love plastic bag
I cannot remember the last time I bought a bin liner.
Wellies are hung up in the shed/garage in plastic bags
    Barbeque stuff in another
Bike locks and pumps in another.
I colour code them all - bright orange (Sainsburys), blue ( smiths) etc

Never go on holiday without a healthy supply to wrap things in which might leak/spill.
Re-use them all holiday for kids to put their dirty clothes in.
Wet/sandy/muddy clothes can go in another.
    Wet/muddy footwear in another.
To be honest, I am a bit disappointed with the diodegradeable ones - got my Xmas stuff out of the loft, and several plastic bags ( esp Tesco ones) had disintergrated. For a moment I thought I had mice up there

Last yr picked dd and her mates up from Weston Park after wet weekend 'gig'. Place a mud bath !! THe Old Bag here as usual had a boot full of plastic bags.
Plastic bag over each wellie-booted foot as they got into my car, a bag over muddy sleeping bags, under ruck sacks .... - saved me all the time and effort of having to clean out my car when I got home !!

Muddy Football boots, smellie shin-pads and socks, bread for the ducks, wet swimming costumes, sweaty gym kit..... what do you greenies use? a canvas bag which you then have to wash, using detergents that pollute the environment, and of course energy !!

Don't get me wrong, I love the canvas bags - I use it to keep all my plastic bags in ;) . The last time I used it to actually carry home shopping, the milk leaked, soaked the lovely canvas bag, and the carpeting of my car - guess how long that took to clean out and get rid of the smell  . Plus of course had to wash out the canvas bag !!!

They don't call me The Old Bag for nothing :p
