I have changed the router to ATM and I am still online so that's fine, I tried the ps3 but still no joy.
I also tried the ps3 with the ethernet cable plugged into it and it detected it straight away, found the router, ip address the lot, took the ethernet cable out to try wireless and back to usual, can't connect.
    It's driving me mad!!

lets see if I can simplify things...
    on your pc
    click
    start
    click
    network
your netgear DG834 router should be there
    double click the icon
this will take you to the netgear home-page...
    username: admin
    password: password
or whatever you choose for your password if you changed these...
    click on:
    Wireless Settings
this will tell you that the...
    Name (SSID) : NETGEAR
    Region: Europe
    Channel: 11
    Mode: g & b
    next
    Wireless Access Point
Enable Wireless Access Point (this should be ticked)
Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID) (this should be ticked)
Wireless Isolation (this should not be ticked)

    Wireless Station Access List setup
this is for anything that is wirelessly connected to your netgear router...once your PS3 is up and running it will show on this and you should tick it and press apply...
    Security Options
    Disable (leave unticked)
WEP (wired equivalent privacy) (tick this one)
for now if you do this one it will give you a better idea of what the others do...
WPA-PSK (wi-fi protected access pre-shared key) (leave unticked)
    WPA-802.1X (leave unticked)

    WEP Security Encryption

    Authentication tpye: shared key
    Encryption Strength: 128bit

    WEP KEY
passphase: a box that is blank here you should enter SATURDAY generate click on generate to generate a key
    KEY 1
    KEY 2
    KEY 3
    KEY 4
The Key Code is 26 numbers and letters long this is what you put into the PS3 as the wep code/key and anything else you have running wireless...
    hope this helps...
    :)

Thanks Ice I went into the router settings and there is nothing under WIRELESS STATION ACCESS LIST SETUP
    so I couldn't tick.
There is an option to add new station manually which requires the DEVICE NAME and MAC ADDRESS, should I try putting the ps3 in there?

    Thanks

I have a netgear router also, and ended up turning of security and instead put in MAC filtering so only my laptop, Wii, N95 and PS3 could connect to it.

NO...once it is up and running it WILL show up in there...then you can tick it...you must still be doing something wrong cos if netgear was picking it up it would be there...I'll go into my settings and give you a run down as to how things should look...:)

once in NETGEAR SETTINGS this is what it should look like...
    BASIC SETTINGS
Does your internet connection require A Login?
    YES

    ENCAPSULATION: PPPoA (PPP over ATM)

Login: your ISP login details eg: joebloggs@btinternet.com
    Pasword: your ISP password...
    Idle Timeout (in minutes) 0

    INTERNET IP ADDRESS
    Get Dynamically from ISP
    DOMAIN NAME SERVER (DNS) ADDRESS
    Get Automatically From ISP
    NAT (NETWORK ADDRESS TRANSLATION)
    Enable
    press apply

    ADSL SETTINGS
    Multiplexing Method: VC-BASED
    VPI: 0
    VCI: 38

try looking to see if your look like this and change any to these that don't...then try the other post I was on about...that should get you up and running....:)

when you get your PS3 up and running wirelessly go into the netgear settings for wireless..

    WIRELESS STATION ACCESS LIST
    Turn Access Control On
    this should be ticked

    Trusted Wireless Stations
    in here I have the
    PS3
    xbox 360
    and a wireless desktop...

When you set-up your PS3 it should show-up under
    AVAILABLE WIRELESS STATIONS
    so you click on ADD
then it will appear on the trusted wireless stations above
    click apply...

    :)

Thanks Ice, I did take your advice from post#33 and generated a WEP KEY of 26 characters. Hey presto this worked a treat.

Thing is though, (just to complicate things). I notice on your last post that the router should be on PPPoA (PPP over ATM)
mine says PPPoE (PPP over ETHERNET)
Also the multiplexing method should be VC-BASED
    mine says LLC-BASED
Also even though we played the ps3 wirelessly all night and my son is playing it now, it still isn't showing on the WIRELESS STATION ACCESS LIST
Do I need to bother with any of these issues now since I am (at long last)connected, or should I still make the changes?

    Thanks again

it just makes it so only things you want online go online and not everyone else...like the bloke sat outside on his laptop in his car...
but if it works then hey why change things...if your happy with this then go for it...glad I could help... :)it could also depend on which ISP you have and also which area you live in...keep an eye on who's sat outside and if anyone jumps on your BB then just kick them off...using the access list...the router automatically picks up your settings with your ISP (I think) so if thats what its set to then leave it at that...
