SIMs and Mobile Numbers
Hi, I've just got a new orange PAYG phone and SIM. I have also ordered a few free orange SIMs for friends/family in case they want to use the orange wednesdays deal.
I wanted to know if there's anyway to find out the phone number associated with a particular SIM.
Is the only way to put the SIM in, and phone someone else?
Can I actually phone someone without any credit? (assuming they don't answer the phone)
The reason being is I want to use the SIM that has the most "memorable" number. I'm not sure if the number is only assigned when I activate the SIM (do I even need to do that?)
Very confused about the whole process of using a new SIM!

With Orange sims you need to register them to get the number, you can do this online or over the phone, both methods are equally dire I have to say. Tried to register a new sim the other day, started with the phone method but as soon as we tried to give the personal details the call was disconnected so I then tried online and once I got to the address bit it said to try again later?
I have had problems before with Orange and my particular postcode for some reason so the next option may well be to go into an Orange shop and get them to register it for me. Good luck!0 -
That's odd. When I bought my 02 phone a year or so ago, the phone number was printed on the box and the shop didn't ask for any of my personal details.
They don't need to know my address, it's a PAYG phone anyway
Thanks for help, I may end up porting my number over from 02, as it's quite memorable.0 -
Yes, if you buy a phone from a dealer or a network, they will activate the number for you. Most pay-as-you-go SIMs do have their phone number allocated and on the packet when sent out, and activate automatically when the phone is switched on, but not Orange.0
