The OWL wireless energy monitoring device is currently being offered at a discount price advertised by U Switch. Usually costs £49.95 including delivery, but with this discount code (183US) you can buy it for £34.95 including delivery.
This gadget makes the following claims:
[FONT="]Reduce your electricity usage by up to 25% with the new OWL wireless energy monitor. The OWL monitors your electricity usage, giving you real-time information on either the cost of your electricity, CO2 emissions or kWh. The OWL is easy to install and works with its own portable wireless monitor.
I cant comment as I havent used it yet but will report back how I get on with it - anyone else had any experience with this gadget? I believe its fairly new out.

VERY interesting !!
"A Labour Party spokesman told BBC News that the scheme was likely to be up and running in 2008." wonder how much of an accurate commitment to schedule 'likely' means??
"Although the people who request a monitor will receive it free of charge, Mr Nicholson said consumers would ultimately foot the bill because the cost of the scheme would either be recouped through taxes or their energy bills." - yeah more than recouped given the current hikes !! If you dont need one coz you already bought one no doubt ure bill will still go up !! PAH !!!

Its just the Electrisave rebranded, its good to see that the price has come down though.
It displays your total instantaneous usage but does not store any results.
Its also the subject of some controversy as to its usefulness, compared with say a plug in watt meter.
Over to you Mr C.............................
PS The energy saving claims are ridiculous, it makes you aware of your consumption that is all. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Yes I have heard about these smart meters being made available for customers of energy suppliers in the near future.0
-
Lidl sell them periodically for about £7-8.0
-
they were also on trial in the south wales area by British Gas too with a view to rolling them out to their residentail customers.0
