I hadn't realised PAYG phones were this cheap!

Simply click via quidco.com (or another 100% cashback payer) to Phones4U, who offer £10 cashback for PAYG handsets.

The Nokia 1200 is currently £9.95 when you buy a £10 top up - delivery is free.

Total charged to credit/debit card is £19.95
Cashback received via Quidco (or other cashback provider) £10.00

TOTAL COST £9.95 for a Nokia 1200 phone and a £10 Virgin top up!

no free unlock but free code from Virgin if you have ( or know someone who has) topped up with at least £30 in the past

or track down a market stall or shop to do it

One thing to be aware is that Virgin may not be able to provide unlock codes for these. I have previously purchased cheap Nokia 1112 from Phones 4 U as I got them free for buying £20 credit, but when I phoned Virgin, they said they did not have the code and could not get the code. Even though I phoned on numerous occassions and pursued it I did not manage to get the code from them, they kept on telling me to go back to P4U and ask them for the code as they should have it. Didn't really understand this. They said they usually only have codes for their own mobiles they sell from their own website. Went to the market stall and the guy said not worth the hassle, will probably be £10 to do a complete flash. I have still got it sitting in a drawer gathering dust so if anyone has any idea let me know.

So why didn't you do this? Did I read it right, he said he'd do it for a Tenner but you refused?

They're easy peasy to unlock and take a couple of minutes (with the correct equipment). You're not going to get it unlocked for free but it seems a waste to leave it in the draw.

You could just trade it in, if you've got the phone, charger & manual.
Carphonewarehouse will give you £10 towards another PAYG mobile.
O2 stores and Orange shops do also give credit in certain circumstances too
    ;)

Didn't want to pay a tenner as I have spent quite a lot of money on Virgin and they will unlock it for free normally. This was one of the reasons I bought it! I will now just trade it in for a contract phone when I next buy from CPW which I will get £20 for. They can't just do it unfortunately, I got my Virgin Nokia unlocked a year ago and he took my Nokia 1101 away for 2 days and had to ask someone else to flash it. I phoned Phones 4 U aabout the 1112 and just got the run around :( telling me to ask Virgin!

Was just trying to warn people that unlocking it may end up costing them extra (market stall) rather than free from Virgin as |I thought would be the case. Just something to keep in mind.
