    Hi,

I have a P reg turbo diesel Mondeo, I've been thinking about using oil for a while, and now am I definitely planning on doing it. I thought to start with I might try mixing 50/50 with oil and diesel, to try to stop it clogging up the engine and hopefully avoid any sudden problems (I might add more gradually once I know 50/50 works!) - Does that sound like a good plan?

Does anyone know if it will work if I put 20 litres of diesel in, and then pour in 20 litres of oil? Or do I need to actually mix it some how?
  • yesterday...and for some weeks....pura veg oil was retailing at 54p per litre at my local tesco store...today I poped in and picked up a few bottles and thought it strange that the price from the shelf had been removed.
It was still "flashed" as "Special" but no price to be seen, so I went on to the checkout and was then charged £1.07 per bottle!!!:-(

Went to Customer Services Desk and was told yes the price has doubled overnight but they felt that removing the previous price and not replacing it with the newer 100% increase in price was ok....let just say they were not best pleased when I felt I should be refunded! Anyway...got my refund after some humming and haaing and suggested next time they double their prices it might be a good idea to share it with the customers by puting the new price on the shelf!!!

Anybody else still managing to source Pura in Tescos at 54p a litre?

you need to be carefull in the cold weather as the cooking oil will go thick and clog up your pump, to avoid this you also need to add a small amount of methalated spirits or a white spirit, this will prevent the oil from thickening during any cold spells. In the summer months i ran my pug on 100% cooking oil, with no problems at all. I have seen oil tank heaters that will also prevent your mix from thickening but this adds more expence. I also know that old volvos will run on lard and white spirit, you do need to melt down the lard and add the spirit,:rotfl:trust me it works
  • We've been running our pajero on 50/50 for over a year now - appears to be fine - although bummer when your hungry as it smells like a chip/burger wagon -lol!!!

Thanks for that - how do you do the 50/50 - do you mix it before you put it in?
  • No particular way, tend to put in the diesel and then top up at home with the same amount of oil - use a jug if you buy the big tub of oil it can get messy!

This is really interesting.I've been thinking about exploring this for a while. We have a mate who runs his on central heating oil. Is there anywhere which lists which vehicles can run on veg oil? Any idea whether its OK for a 6 yr old Vauxhall Zafira?!! Thanks!

PETROL???? Are you sure? We are talking about diesel vehicles here aren't we?

I was horrified when I went into my local Tescos earlier this week to see that they are now charging just under £1 a litre for the 3 litre bottles of veg oil. Didn't see any cheaper than that. I'll obviously have to shop around.

Sainsburys had 5ltrs for £3.99 the other day the brand was pride this was veggie/sunflower HTH :)
No one said it was gonna be easy!

I found a rough list this morning via google, but can't seem to find it now, sorry. I think the older cars are better, 6 years might be pushing it... It has to be a diesel run car...
My bro who is a mechanic said to me this afternoon that his oil for his central heating seems pretty much like diesel - much less thick and gloopy than veg oil - and thinks that would work well - he pays 43p per litre in bulk, but guess the problem is storing it...
