a guy collects used oil from freecyclers and then cleans it to run his car
basically he put an add up and when people have a few litres ready for him to pick up he makes his rounds:T Thanks to all lovely MSE'rs - you are great friends :T0 -
thanks guys, keep the prices coming.
i will try to find a macro round here i think.
ref; taxes. i think as of july last year the inland revenue scraped the tax on bio fuels as long as you dont use more than 2500 L a year which is plenty for the average user, i believe it cost them too much money to collect and police it. (more than they were getting back )
tesco has the veggie oil on their web site fopr 57p last time i looked.
not sure the delivery man would appriciated me having 50 L of the stuff delivered with my shopping though.:rotfl:
my van is an old vw t4 not worht a great deal so im not to worriede about side effects. but most people who are doing it seem to have no problems.you go in the cage ! cage goes in the water ! sharks in the water ! our shark :eek:0 -
Just checked on the Tesco home delivery site - the cheapest there is corn oil at £.2.45 for 3 litres - about 80p a litre. I think 57p per litre must have been a loooooooooooong time ago! I've never tried corn oil myself, I imagine it would be OK, but that's not particularly cheap anyway.
Alanco is quite right about the tax position though - 2500 litres a year is ok - easily confirmed if you look at some of the many websites via Google.
Does anybody else have any current cheap prices? - apart from the likes of Makro, I've no chance of getting a card there!0 -
hi bartman,
i have just checked tesco site and it is still there,
Pura vegetable oil 1 litre 0.56p.
but went to my local branch today (its onlya fairly small one though) and they didnt have any on the shelf.
i will try a larger store soon.you go in the cage ! cage goes in the water ! sharks in the water ! our shark :eek:0 -
Alanco, that's really weird, I've gone back into Tesco shopping food & drink, and I still can't find it. When I search for "Pura" it comes up with something called "Pura Light Touch" which is a speciality oil sold in 420ml bottles which works out at £1.80 a litre!
There can't be any regional differences can there? As far as I know there's only one Tesco shopping site......0 -
Hi Guys
Does any one know if this mix of 50/50 or 30/70% can be used on modern TDI engins? my Passt is done 190,000 mles so even if i can use oil mixture for cople of years and thow the car away then it might still worth it as Diesal is pinting towards £1.25 a litres.
thanks0 -
few replies.
corn oil whislt is might work is not reccomended
tdi is not reccomneded , it prefers older non injection for full on veg oil wihtout mixing with diesel
look for info on veg oil in bulk , about 2500 litres for the tax concession , and refine it .... do some forum reading in specialist sites for all in one veg oil convertor units.
KEEP reciepts , if you dont you will be sorry , just read the forums on the specialist sites.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -

actually we are all directed to the stock at our local store; if they dont sell it it wont be listed. I assume it is done via postcode when you register with .com. I have a feeling that my store dont sell pura any more, they certainly used to though. HTH
My OH tells me that there is a risk of prosecution if you dont pay fuel tax by using veg oil, is that correct?0 -
hi, i think you will risk prosecution if you use over 2500 L a year and dont declare it.
so i would keep all receipts so you can prove what you have used along with milage records .
this is only a recent change in the law, about 9 months ago, before that you had to declare everything.
does anyone know if pura is a vegetable oil or a corn oil , are they the same thing ?you go in the cage ! cage goes in the water ! sharks in the water ! our shark :eek:0 -
Thanks, Clowance, that explains the Tesco problem!
I think I'll give the corn oil a miss.
I am getting fed up with the continued scaremongering about being prosecuted!!!!
Try Googling if you don't believe it! It has even been reported on the BBC so it must be right (!) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/working_lunch/6288920.stm0
