Bought TV in Comet then they dropped the price...!

Forgot to add : I would personally NEVER deal with Comet again after they knowingly sold me a faulty TV:mad:

Anyone buying a TV would be well advised to do a price match with John Lewis, they would certainly pricematch Comet/Currys/ Empire Direct etc and you get their free 5 year warranty included, obviously no use to SalexC but might be to others0

I don't fancy your chances of getting a refund from Comet tbh unless the set is faulty.
My mom bought one from them a few years ago to fit a specific cabinet, she double checked that she could return it if it didn't fit. She did return it and Comet said they wouldn't refund because she'd opened the box and they would have to re-sell the set as second hand. She had to stay in the shop for nearly 2 hours before they'd giver her her money back.
We had simialr problems with a faulty washer we bought from them too, I personally wouldn't go near Comet ever again.
I think it's just one of those things, you could try and appeal to their better nature, but I'm not sure that they have one.
I know how you must feel though.0 -
If you're really desperate for the £200 ( I know I would be!), check if they have a 28 day no quibble return policy, and if you can afford it, buy the cheaper one, then return it using the £999.99 receipt!

I'm not surprised, and it's worth noting that Comet staff gain commission from sales, and like wise a returned product will effect that commission. This is bound to contribute to their lack of willingness for a product to be returned.0 -

Two points
Firstly i believe i am right in saying restocking fees are illegal.
Scoundly once you have purchased an item you have no legal right to ask for a refund if it is not faulty. Once bought it is your property, if you end up not liking it or cant afford it the there is nothing legally you can do to get a refund from the retailer.
Where you return clothes etc because they are the wrong size etc it is only a gesture of good will that they let you (also clothes are easier to resell) again their is no legal right for a refund as the law says that you had the opportunity to check the size and try it on before purchase.
Some customer still think they have an automatic right to a refund if they dont like an item or no longer want it. You dont!"Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0 -

when the item is bought from the store, as you said there is no legal right to return, therefore they can return items on their own terms and charge a re-stocking fee if they want to
^...as far as i'm awareYes Your Dukeiness0 -
i thought currys charge a 10% restocking charge when you return a good, so actually instead of getting back £200 they get £100
But the op bought the item from Comet.
Empire Direct charge a restocking fee of 10% too. I wanted a dvd player from there recently, there was no display model and the guy wouldn't open the box. He said I'd have to buy it and bring it back if I didn't like it, still losing 10%.
Needless to say I went elsewhere.0 -
you can try asking but i doubt they will refund you the difference.
personally i think it would be very cheeky of you to ask for a difference considering the price dropped 4 weeks after you bought it.
I too get quite annoyed when i buy something only to find it become cheaper after one/two/three weeks. But that is simply SOD'S LAW!
Its ineveitable that in this day and age where tech is reinventing itself faster than you can blink that theres always something newer round the corner which will cause prices to drop. add to this the fact that stores are competing with so many more retailers and etailers alike its not suprising.
Productively speaking there are some things you can do (and this is what i do)
if the product is cheaper online then in store(more often than not) or even slightly dearer online- (which it usually isnt), then i tend to buy online
because products purchased online have a longer 'cooling off' period of up to 14 days
products purchased instore USUALLY only have 7 days cooling off period.
the downside is that anything you buy online and then that needs returning, it may have to be done at your own cost - if its furniture, a 37" tv etc it could be a lot of postage!
with some stores you can return the items to store and some companies like littlewoods have free returns (well done littlewoods)
hope this helps0
