I was soooo annoyed on tuesday when i got home from sainsburys and realised id been charged full price for something that should have been half price! It was only a pound or say but as you all say it was MY pound!!!

Ditto had to the same thing happen to me in Somerfield last week, so annoying when the store displays an offer and then do not give it to you:mad:

Happened to me in Somerfield too! it was a BOGOF offer but was charged for it. The supervisor was really good about it even though i was really apologetic...(why??) she said to me 'its your money we've taken incorrectly so why should we keep it?'
I always check my receipts prior to leaving the supermarket. Thats cos i'm a tight cow! MSEing has only served to tighten my purse strings even further!!

I'm always complaining in our local Spar, as we don't go out much, we have the odd bottle of plonk every now and then and they often have the one we like for 3.99 (or is it 3.99), anyway, it always rings up at 6.49 and I always tell the cashier that it's not correct, they must've fleeced so many people over this and we've been complaining about it for nearly 2 years and they still haven't sorted the problem out!

so what is the lowest amount you would complain about? I decided against teh 3p, even though their double the difference would have made it 6p...but would anyone have said anything???

I was overcharged 40p in Lidl for some asparagus I bought last week but at the time there was only one cashier on and a massive queue so I left it at the time but wrote a letter to Head Office when I got home, with the receipt and within four days I had a reply apologising and offering me £3 for the inconvenience. So now I'm £2.60 up! Just have to take the letter in and get the £3 taken off my next shop.

I'm not so good at face to face confrontation, especially when there are a lot of other people about but I don't mind writing a letter to them afterwards.

PS. Also sent letter to Tesco in the same week about some revolting sausages and they sent a money card for £3 too!

    Hello everyone,

this has made me smile thanks to all for posting their experiences i actually thought i was the only one with this dilemma.

Im trying to teach and guide my 15 yr old daughter about how to be streetwise with money and showing her how to think about what she spends money on , or what we as a family have been doing wrong for so many years and help her not to do our mistakes. Does that sound sensible?

Anyway my story was at the local premier store 2 packs of biscuits for 89p, of course he scanned first okay but when second one didnt pop up on his cash register as a buy one get one free, i advised the leaflet did say so, checked with his manager, at this point im standing my ground my daughter is getting embarrased. bless her, she has lots to learn still lol

anyway id added that it came to about 4.64 good job we only had a fiver - he told me his "computer says" no - its 5.53 well then i had fun, i told him ive added it up in my head and i say 4.64. The computer had not taken the buy one free and had not deducted one of the 89pence for the 2nd pack of biscuits.
By this time the queue was forming, i had an audiance, oh dear, i asked him to go and check the leaflet and get a pen and paper and add it up like i had

by this time my daughter for once is speechless, she always has something to say, teenagers hahahah

got to finally pay only 4.64 and got a huge apology - but you see if i hadnt totted it up in my head they would have got an extra 89 p, to me thats a loaf of bread at 69 p at aldi and 20p in my 20p jar.

I think finally my daughter got the message and is learning to always check her receipts, got her already trained on the BOGOFS she comes back always proud if she has managed to get one of her ESSENTIAL items. in this manner. hahaa

sorry longwinded hope it reminds us to be extra vigilent whenever we pass over our cash.

    Have a fun day

    Ciao for now MAZ;)

I read Martin's 3 lessons book yesterday, one of the lessons being that the company is not your friend - my new mantra. Well today I was overcharged 70p in Hobbycraft for 2m of ribbon extra.

I went straight back to the cash desk to sort it out. The supervisor was amazed I wanted it back saying that it is only 70p, I said 'yes, but it is my 70p' Normally I would have got in the car and not have given it a second thought - I'm getting worried about myself!

I always check my receipts (I'm good with figures, so I can check a £100 supermarket shop) in a min or two).

I would have complained for 70p.
I am disgusted with the supervisors attitude towards you.

I think you should write to their head office & perhaps they would consider giving her some proper customer service skills.

As a bonus they may send a small gesture of apology.

You should have paid her 70p less and then said "its only 70p"

I went to the till at Sainsbury's to pay for my petrol (£20) to be told it was £20.01.
THEM: "The pump clicks over sometimes"

ME: "Yes, but I checked it and it hadn't. I know it's 'only' 1p, but if every customer at every filling station in GB is over-charged by 1p, that's an awful lot of pennies!"

THEM: "I never thought of it that way" (handing over penny!)

I think I've been inspired to check my receipts! I guess it all adds up over time.

My parents are always very careful- my mum checks her receipts against her statements. I guess I never picked the habit up. Well done Maz for encouraging your daughter.
