Bennetts Bike -Online Insurance Rip-off

Hi,
Where to start....
Ok, My husband bought, online bike insurance from Bennetts, include commuting to & from a place of work and Legal cover, at a fair price after we had shopped around.
When the policy arrived, it had neither commuting nor Legal cover, so we gave them a quick ring to be told that if it's not on the document it's not included & wasn't included in the price & we would have to pay extra for it.
Once you click to accept the quote, it automatically adds Legal Cover at £25.99, which we kept as we'd got £20 cashback from Quidco [Thanks MSErs!] so I KNOW we kept it, and hubby wants to ride it to work in the summer - it's why he bought the bike so it would be daft not to cover this on the insurance. But no - Bennetts didn't want to know. They couldn't check their records to see what was quoted for, and I lost the quote data once I'd clicked to buy.
I put in another quote for the correct policy details and got a quote for £1 dearer through the same insurer, including commuting & Legal, but Bennets didn't want to know, They just wanted an extra £70 plus whatever they were going to charge for a policy amendment.
Fed up, we wrote & complained, but decided to cancel within 14 days, which they now tell me they will charge £30 to do.:mad:
Surely this cannot be right.......:mad::mad:

Do they not e-mail a copy of the quote to you at the time?
Otherwise, I can't see how you can prove anything and I think you are stuffed, to be honest.
Next time, you need to print a screen shot of the quotation before accepting it.0 -
I do not think they can charge anything when you cancel within 14 days, I would write again CUSTOMER COMPLAINT and ask for a refund.
£25.99 seems a lot for legal cover.
I would suggest you try Carole Nash."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Ride hard or stay home :iloveyou:0 -
Thank you for all your comments, we have now cancelled the policy, to a very stroppy telephony operator - she was downright rude!!
If we have to pay the £30- so be it!
With hindsight Mark I really wish we'd thought to do a screen print - that'll teach me to be trusting!! I have a feeling that the issue might have been to do with me not saving the quote before I clicked to buy. 3 days later the same quote came out at less than £1 different. Emailed quote was for completely different amount.
Have written to say reason for cancelling is that policy is not what I agreed to buy online and asked if they would waive the fee as I was stilll within 14 days.
C'est la vie!!:T £500 saved this year on annual Building & contents cover :T

bennetts nightmare or what
just thought i would share my sons recent experiance with bennetts insurance company , this all started when his renewal notice came in , he went online and got a better deal with a different broker , so he the sent back his renewal telling them in writing he did not wish to take their policy this year and also cancelled his direct debt, that was fine until about a month later he got a letter from them to say he was due them £199.00. after a phone call to them from myself to find out what this was about bearing in mind his actual premium was £160.00 for the full year i was told they had not recived anything in writing and had continued the policy this payment was for 1 months insurance and a cancellation fee that sounds pretty fair (not).
So after some hot phone calls and a few nasty letters form them including the old debt collectors, i sent proof of his new policy starting on the date of his old one expiring , i was them assured over the phone this was an end to the matter (good times) but not for long , another letter came in about 3 weeks later still asking for the £199.00 (bad times) , ok so another phone call to bennetts ,this time i was told it had been an error and should not have been sent , so i was then told again this would be the end of the matter , so i asked for a letter to this affect but never recieved one.
That was well over a month ago' I have just recieved an new letter this week asking for the sum of £79.10 which they say was refunded to my sons credit card and has been a system error , thats ok but my son has not got a credit card , he has now got 2 days to pay or it will be reffered to the debt recovery department . I have just written a nice letter to them dusputing the the payment and because of all the letters in the past 5 months have brought to there attention the harassment act 1979 , i have also told them i will charge them up to £80 administration costs for anymore letters and having to get bank statments and possibly taking time off work to deal with the matter , i will
write again in the next month or so to let you know the outcome but readers be warned watch out for bennetts , try typing in bennetts insurance complaints on google , makes good reading if you have a spare couple of hours,,,,,,,,, scootrandy edinburgh
