Actually, I'm a Grandad, but the principle's the same.
Could we have an end to calling basic, simple-to-use mobile phones 'Granny phones'.
I'm 62; I built my own computer, even though I don't come from a technical background; I can switch my PC on unaided; I can forward the ports on my router. My 30 year old son-in-law thinks a router is a woodworking tool.
I think you get the picture.
I think we should call these basic mobiles 'Congenital idiot phones'. That would be much nicer.

I have also got a BA degree which I gained in my late 50's.

I would have thought that calling basic, simple to use mobiles, granny phones was a compliment to grannies, and a comment on their high intelligence.
They're for people who have the sense to see that the purpose of a mobile is to make and receive calls and text messages. Granny phones are the ones with user interfaces that work, that don't fall apart with a splash of water or if you drop them, that have a nice sized key pad that actually works and that don't cost a fortune because of gadgets in them that are rarely used.
I currently, at 26, have a non granny phone and I hate it. I will be returning to a nice straightforward phone as soon as I can justify replacing the expensive annoying one I currently have.0 -
My Granny phone is old, doesn't make too many demands on me, makes everything seem reassuringly simple and not worth worrying about. Although it can be unpredictable at times, and need a bit of help now and then, it is utterly trustworthy and always there to help me out in times of trouble.
Happy to call it a Granny Phone! The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

My Mum has a granny phone, she is a granny and still can't work it ... mind you she still can't work the VHS after 26 years of having one.
I had an all-singing all-dancing mobile and it drove me crazy, so now I have a basic granny phone which does me fine.0 -
I think you'll find it was Martin who coined the phrase "granny in the glovebox" but I also think you'll find Martin loves and respects his own granny very much and respects her opinion a great deal

I don't care who coined the phrase-it's not very nice. I'm more respectful towards older people than that.
Martin's a bit short in the hair dept -definitely receeding but we don't call this Old Baldy's Forum.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

It's going to get worse for us old fogies who only use a phone when we really need to make a call when, as I heard on the news today, phone calls from aircraft become legal.
It's bad enough to hear the young trendies loudly yelling ;''I am on the train'' - it's going to be terrible as the young dears are shouting ''I am on a plane over the Atlantic''
I hope we are going to have quiet areas - especially on long haul flights as we try to catch up on our sleep.
