y do folk think they can pay when they feel like it?!
Life is a learning curve. Nothing wrong with getting your fingers burnt once. OP got burnt before and didn't set up the direct debit - maybe didn't know that this was possible?
What is unfortunate is that more people don't find their way to this forum before these missed payments happen. Count the number of posts were people have this happen to them and we all post basically the same replies about setting up a DD to repay the minimum.
Was about to comment that the CS people should strongly recommend a DD when you call to activate your card - but then I remembered that they make money from people learning the hard way."A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -
i personally disagree with the d/d thing with storecards on the basis of i dont want more d/d's on my account than i already have. plus i know id only pay the minimum without topping up. with internet banking i always pay 100% by the date or as much as poss.
instead i remember the 'payment by' dates.0 -

Unless there's 0% interest on the store card, DD should be to clear it in full for sure.
On the credit card side, I've too many cards to be bothered having to remember, find DD much easier. I'd need to remember both the payment due dates, the time it takes for different transactions to clear, and remember bank holidays. Because they take the money by DD at the last minute it means that it earns a few days extra interest"A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0
