    Hi,

if you keep used turpentine in a jam jar with the lid on, after using to clean off gloss paint, the pain will settle in the bottom of the jar allowing you to decant the clean turps sitting at the top and use it again.

toilet roll/kitchen roll cardboard rolls are fab for storing hair bobbles if you have long hair. my daughter has wrapped several in old scraps of paper, they look quite good and it keeps them together. you can also slide hair grips on at one end under the bobbles.

    Great thread.

I re-use any sheets of A4 paper, with one blank side, by scribbling down the used side (to remind me it has been read), and using the unused side for use in my printer. It's amazing how many sheets arrive through adverts in the post, and the printer accepts sheets that have been previously folded.

I print on both sides of my a4 paper. Or use the other side to write on. Plastic milk bottles can be reused for storing all sorts of things.

Used envelopes are for writing shopping lists on, working out budgets etc. Rather then using fresh clean pieces of paper.

Unless they are from really special people birthday cards etc are cut up and used to make new ones.

I re-use jiffy bags for e-bay. I know that you are suppose to use new. So I re-wrap in an new envelope or brown paper. As it is cheaper then buying a new jiffy bag.

Can't think of anything else at the moment.

Really? Who says you are supposed to use new?

    Trow,

Well now you are asking a question. I was under the impression it had to be new jiffy bags etc. And it was in part of the T + C's. And I have read it on other forums people stating it is suppose to be new jiffy bags etc. And was under the impression that it was the same for amazon.

Mind you if I had £5 p +p for an item and the postage was a £1 and it was in second hand jiffy bag I would be very annoyed. I know you are allowed to include reasonable costs. But that is taking the mick.

Right I am off to ebay board to ask this very question. As I can't find anything help on ebay.

Hi this bit is from the guide to sellers bit, for new sellers:

    "# Ship the item

After payment is received, pack the item well to avoid damage during shipping. Send the item to the buyer's shipping address, which the buyer will have specified with their payment or in an email. Include a note to the buyer asking them to let you know when they receive the item."

It doesn't say anything about not using recycled packaging. It might be somewhere in the small print though.

I've always used recycled packaging when possible, I use charity recycle stickers on jiffy bags (e.g. Friends of the Earth do them). I do make sure that the parcel looks as good as a normal package, so don't send anything scruffy or tatty or unprofessional looking. I've had comments from Amazon & Ebay about the good packaging.

Not sure if this strictly counts, but it sure helps...

I dry out all my used t-bags, then, once they're fully dry, I cut a slit in the back and empty out all the leaves. I collect them all in a bag and once I have enough I'll be sending them to South Africa.

There's a group of ladies in a project in SA who use the empty t-bags to make gifts to sell to make a living. They stick the bags onto boxes / cards etc and then paint them to make beautiful designs.

I love the idea that my rubbish is helping ladies in South Africa build a future for themselves and their families, and giving them a life they may otherwise never have had. Personnally I cant think of a better definition of 'recycling'.

I Have the postal address to send these to, if anybody's interested I'll post it.
I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle

I re-use envelopes when selling on Ebay most of the time so I only have to charge postage and not packagaing, I might round up to the nearest 10p purely to cover the cost of fresh labels selotape etc. I don't tend to reuse any scruffly looking envelopes, but generally 97% of the post I get looks fine anyway!
