The tins from Alinsons dried yeast are useful for taking salt and pepper with you when camping.Matches can be stored in them too if you open out the box and fold it to fit inside (striking side outwards),with the matches in the middle.
Good for keeping a mini sewing kit in too.0 -
The wrapper around the butter/lard IS greaseproof paper, so if you save these wrappers, you never need to buy a roll of greaseproof. If you do not need it immediately, give it a quick wipe with a clean dishcloth (having scraped the contents off with a knife of course!) and leave it to dry. I always have enough saved to grease and line tins with.Just off the border of your waking mind, there lies another time ....0

I see nothing wrong with the above water saving slogan. You are just being TOO sensitive.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Don't worry Aussielass, I realise Australia's got very bad water problems, so it may be 'revolting' to me, but we're lucky here at the moment, and don't have to get used to it yet.
Edit - In the last house we did put in new toilets which used less water in the first place, and they were dual flush, and I did use the half flush option appropriately, so I'm only half bad0 -
TBH I've never heard of that slogan.
I suppose some might use it out in the bush on tank water but us townies have a water supply. We all have dual flushing toilets as well. I also re-use my grey water on the yard. You are not suppose to do this, but we live on the outskirts and can get away with it.
PS. This is such a good thread. I've picked up some really great tips.
PSS. My smilies are not on the right hand side anymore but on the top. In my settings I'm still on enhanced. Is anybody elses like that?Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Sorry, I haven't noticed the change 'cos I've been on wisiwiyg for quite some while now. I only use enhanced when editing some of the indexes. Great thread that covers an area close to my heart.
I used my cottage cheese containers as storage & feeding bowls for my baby/toddler son. Re-use plastic bags for bin liners. Plastic containters are great for toys to play with and make things with. My office has the chrome look and I use empty tin cans with the label removed as pen holders. Office printer paper is great for my son to paint on. Once you have bought one bottle of water keep the bottle and refill it up with tap water (if you like tap water or refill from a large bottle or Evan/Volvic) and take that with you. Keep old envelopes and packing stuff to reuse yourself. Compost food waste for free compost. Keep clothes that you are bored of and a year or two later you will fall in love with them all over again without having to spend money shopping.
Friend of the earth book "Save Cash and Save the Planet:" by Andrea Smith, Nicola Baird give you loads of ideas how how to recyle thing around the house.
