Possible scam ?

I have sold a phone in the last few days, the buyer has contacted me and asked how to pay, he hasn't got paypal, i replied asking him to send a cheque.
He has now replied saying he does online banking and will do a transfer if i give him my details ..
If i give him my bank details ( account no. and sort code ) can he rip me off in any way ?
My worries are even though his address is down as London, his e mail is Bulgarian.
Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

What's his feedback like?
I know some sellers offer bank transfer as a payment method, it should be secure, but he should have checked with you before he bid if you don't list it as an option. In your postition, I'd proceed with caution.0 -
It is his responsibility to check via the listing with what payment methods you accept. If I were you I'd just insist he pays by one of the methods you have offered0

Sound advice, you would be able to claim via e-0bay for your final value fees if he refuses to pay by one of your listed methods.
One thing though your bank details account no and sort code are available on any cheque you send out so i doubt he would be able to do alot with them. Just never give secure information pin password etc...0 -
Didn't want to start a new thread, so thought i'd put this here. Does this look like an eBay scam? :-
"Q: How are you today and your family hope all is well with them?. am intending to buy this item for my father in-law, who reside in Africa- Nigeria..and am prepared to 90:00 GBP, and i want you to know that my mode of payment is western union money order/bidpay, and to make the payment your name in full is required for the payment, and your contact address, also your secured e-mail address, for sending you the notifcation. NB.. as soon as they approved the payment they will send you notification via your email, i will need to you get a price quote from ROYALMAIL...so that i can pay you all at once..and you will shipp it to my father in-law for his 65th birthday which is coming up next week friday. looking forward to hear from you soonest."
I listed the item as "Ship to Uk only". Anything to do with Nigeria rings alarm bells with me after all the scam emails i've had recently.0 -
Certainly sounds like a scam to me...avoid at all costs :P0

Yep, looks like a scam.
Thank god he's not the highest bidder. He only opened his eBay a/c yesterday with a USA location ???0 -
This is a fairly recent scam. The scam is that they send you stolen money (eg from a stolen credit card). When you see the money in your bank account you are happy and send the goods. The banks soon trace the money and recover it leaving you out of pocket. The scammers vanish.
A variation on this is they ask you to send them money for some convoluted reason. eg They pay £1000 in to your account, you send them £900 back and they generously say you can keep the rest. The £900 you send is quickly withdrawn and they vanish. The £1000 you though you had is grabbed back by the banks when they catch up.

I had something very similar a few weeks ago, after much correspondence i asked them to send me £65000 in cash for a £50 mobile phone and they replied saying great they will do that ! Still waiting ::)
I got my fees back from E bay but it has put me off listing things as buy it now.
Thanks for the replies to my original query, i will ask for a cheque as per the listing. :-/WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
